I see that you are of advanced years as relate to this site. There have been a nummber of quiet folks of much earlier days dropping in, and it is so nice to see the returns. I won't call you an 'elder' because you have friends smiley - dragon, but it is nice to meet you.

What do you lean towards, for common beverages? smiley - tea, smiley - coffee, smiley - stiffdrink, or a smiley - pggb ?

Hehe. I do drop in from time to time, but aside from the roleplay I'm usually quite the quiet sort. smiley - winkeye

That said I can't so much sit idly by when there's so much happening to the place, now, can I? Although the Atelier is such a respectable place, and me, well... not quite the respectable type. smiley - somersault

smiley - tea is usually my favorite but some days just deserve a good old-fashioned smiley - pggb. Then again, in this weather, a douse with a cold hose will do just as well. My brain is like a smiley - friedegg right now...

In the Atelier (I think) you mentioned southern Californy? I do expect it gets toasty there in summer, do you get a lot of humidity? I am in Ontario, Canuckville, along the north shore of Lake Ontario. When the temps pass the mid-80s, humidity starts to match the temp for numbers. Not really pleasant at all, especially as the confluence (I love that word) of wind patterns bring us the air-dirt of several Canadian and US'ian industrial zones. Our little area sets pollution count records, and the only factories we have are the sort that make cheese. smiley - doh

The Atelier is a genteel place, and may have had 'rooms' for role-play. That doesn't seem to be in-vogue the last 3 or 4 years though ...

Oh, and though in the most clever of disguises, my name is Nick. But please, don't go telling everyone?

We usually get next to no humidity, this year for some reason we've been hovering around 30% and it's really not something we're used to at all. Dry heat is wonderful; you can stand it easily until it gets to about triple digits, because it's so easy to cool off from. This humidity makes an ordinary 90 nigh unbearable... smiley - cry

...but I prefer heat to cold, when it comes down to it. Used to have a lot of pollution down here, too, but nowadays it's not so much pollution as it is the fact that the air doesn't really move around much in the valley during summer. It'd be preferable to go above or below that layer (ocean or mountains)... just never have the chance.

As for the Atelier, they at least seem to tolerate a villain-comet coming through their ceiling... so they're certainly fine in my book! smiley - laugh I'd love to do some roleplay, but it's always hard to dig up the people for it. Maybe Affy'll come up with something, he used to come up with some crazy quests... though his puzzles are sometimes a bit much. smiley - winkeye

As for my name? Hm. I usually just answer to Corrupt around here... but I suppose a less mad place would call me Kristen. Shhh! smiley - biggrin

I really like to be informal if I can, so may I call you Corr' ?

For us, 35 to 45% relative humidity is considered household normals. When the outdoors hit the 80 to 90%, as our later July and much of August will, you can imagine that just saps any energies out of a person. It's like breathing through a well-soaked hand towel. Add the dirt from Toronto, Sarnia and parts of Michigan and norther NY state, you can see it in the air. It is not nice at all

I joined the site in March of '04, and there were atleast a dozen various sorts of RPGs going (NOT rocket propelled grenades! I'm ex-military, so know of such nasty things). A lot of that has faded with the moving-on of a lot of folks. But the selling of the site, and Amy of a paper-sort has helped to bring a lot of faces back. Perhaps under a new (semi-dragon-proof) roof, life will build up again?

Corr is fine. smiley - biggrin

I do hope so. The move to the BBC (waaay back then) wasn't the most popular (but mostly because of several side-effects, like the site winking completely out of existence for a fair bit of time) and we lost a good deal of the original spark back then. It's sort of come back from time to time, but it seems very hard to get things in motion, like things have to be pushed uphill rather than simply nudged downhill.

There's also the fact that most of the people I hung out with originally were pretty much in high school and/or college (as I was) and we've all scattered to the four winds since. I know there's certainly a great deal of life here yet, but it's... not what I'm used to, exactly. (Now I feel old!) smiley - winkeye

As for the roleplay... 'continuity' means a lot of different things to different people (and to some nothing at all) so it can be hard to find like-minded people.

Still, I like the crazy, freeform nature of this place, with conversations smashing into roleplay (or vice versa) and it being no more remarkable than a shift in the weather. Even today, it's certainly a unique place. smiley - biggrin

No one can yet give an idea of a 'transition' time, but there is a lot of good intention on the part of the techy-support volunteers and the company that may host the hardware. So with fingers, wings and eye-stalks crossed, it can be a smooth and short-term disruption

And probably not too different from earlier days, a stroll through the ASK forum and other common threads of community-ness, you will either find old friends or new ones that are of like-minds for role-play. It's not something I could ever really get into myself, but for those with the imagination, I can certainly see the appeal of it.

For now, there's just a load of tentativeness, high hopes, and in most corners, imagination running wild as to what a non-Beeb version might be. I could almost be afraid, except that I am modest in knowing that I am the most manly of men in this entire, ... smiley - erm ... ...

Living room. (Please do discount my boy-smiley - cat, he out-ranks me smiley - winkeye)
