Florida Sailor All is well with the world

Saw your note to Ben, hope you don't mind my lurking. I made that run a few years ago and I would highly recommend that you cut over to U.S. 17 when you hit the South Carolina border. The "tide-water" is both beautiful and relaxing compared to the Interstate. Some of the points of interest include Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Washington (N.C.). In any event have a great trip!

I'm really glad you lurked and responded here. smiley - smiley I've been thinking about posting in Ask h2g2 to find out about the off-the-beaten-trail lovelies out there to visit. I was thinking of getting off the Interstate system as soon as I left south Florida anyway, just because there's so much more to see that way. This'll be a mosey rather than a forced march. I intend to stop whenever the mood strikes me, no plans engraved in stone. So what were your favorite surprises on your trip? And where do you sail in Florida?

Be sure to take a side trip to the Sea Islands, St. Simions etc. in the middle of the Georgia. Savanah is also interesting. When you cross the river I95 runs north while the tidewater area starts to extend to the east. Charlestown is a lot of fun. There is a several block long area downtown with all kinds of clubs and shops. It has been a few years since I have been there but there was a half decent pub. Washington N.C. looked interesting but I didn't ger a chance to stop there.

I am in the Tampa Bay area.

Good morning!
I shall make those notes in my shiny, new atlas and let the wind blow me where it will. smiley - smiley I'm in the mood for a Great Adventure.

Have you been to the Salvadore Dali museum? I went years ago and loved it, will likely swing by again for an afternoon on my way homeward.

Yes I went there just after it first opened, It has to be at least 15 minutes from the house so I haven't been there lately smiley - biggrin. There is also a very good fine arts museum a couple blocks to the north, above second avenue north. Have you visited the Ringling estate in Sarasota? I believe the mansion is re-opened and they have a great Baroke museum on the grounds. The house was used in the latest "Great Expectations" movie where Fin (Pip) is given an art expo in New York.
There is an exceptional pub on St. Pete Beach called the Harp and Thistle which brings in celtic bands from all over the countrysmiley - cheers.

I went to the Ringling Estate years and years ago, when I was a kid. My memory of the place is pretty sketchy... sounds as if I just might have to make a seperate mission from this Great Adventure so I can come and explore your neck of the woods properly. If there's an exceptional pub over there, well, I imagine you know how it goes.... ya can't have just one. smiley - cheerssmiley - alesmiley - ale*hic*
