h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi.
was just looking for some advice. for ages and ages I've been looking for reliable piano sheet music for the Inspector Morse Theme by Barrington Pheloung, I've been round numurous music shops, tried ordering stuff, libraries, the lot. I cannot find a decent transcription anywhere! The sheet music version I currently have is off a classical chillout compilation book. However, this is nothing like the audio.

I don't know if the particular version I am on about is out of print, as it must be over 10 yrs old. The sleevenotes I have on my Inspector Morse CD (essential collection) say that this particular solo piano version was released in sheet music in 1992 on rainbow publishing.
If anyone knows the version I am on aboutis there any mail order co's that might supply old music like this?
I'd be very pleased if anyone could help

You are saying that the CD didn't just have the real music but had someone playing a piano version of the music which you believe was commercially available in sheet music form?

I'd probably just work out my own transcription as I have for many other things. I usually find the "official" ones don't match the reality of the original anyway and of course they might not be of an appropriate level of difficulty either (depending on the person/people for whom I'm doing a transcription, often because the one they've bought isn't suitable).

I agree with you about transciptions, I frequently have the same problem. I have tried working it out by ear, its fairly accessable, its just that even if I did finally get it right, I have no means of writing it down accurately. I can read music, but my writing of it is not always reliable. I've been trying to get a midi program that will write it for me, but I'm running win98.

The more I look at it, the more I wonder if part of it was actually an overdub, because I'm not convinced you can physically play the morse rythmn at the back of the piece continously, what with everything else going on in the piece. There are some reasonably sized chords in it for sure!

its so much easier transcibing stuff for guitar-well done to the person who invented tabs! i only wish there was another shorthand for piano music!

btw, out of interest, do you know the version I mean?

No, I don't know of it - hence my questioning that that was what you really meant. I've heard the music to the actual programme (and spotted it was morse code without prompting ) but I don't appear to have any sort of an audio copy here (my collected themes are somewhat older or cartoon or sci-fi related).
