Depends hom much you're willing to spend, and if you want some kind of dedicated "loop" box that'll read bpms and things or just a delay pedal. There are numerous effects and delays that could do this kind of thing, starting with Zoom effects boxes or a standalone delay pedal, the Boss ones are quite good, up to multi effect guitar pedal units, again Boss. The thing of this sort that I've enjoyed playing with most was an Electronix delay rackmount which had a bpm counter, midi sync and a multi mode filter, you do do loops with it very easily and make really wild filtered layering up type of stuff. The other alternative would be use a computer and software, you can do really quite sophisticatd live looping type performances with a variety of software, notably Ableton Live or Reaktor.

Good luck smiley - goodluck

Oddly enough someone asked similar question on Urban75 a few days back! There are quite a few suggestions in this thread:

Urban75 can be a bit, er, post-watershed, but I think this thread is relatively civil.

Get on eBay and look at a few and try to find the biggest difference in price between what they're going for and the rrp. smiley - erm read some product reviews first. Try the Sound on Sound website for that.

Personally, if you're serious about making music you need a pc and a sound card, I'd put the money towards that: you can always get software to mimic the effects of hardware and more often than not you can get that free.smiley - biggrinsmiley - ok

How's that going? Can you reWire it? Might make the switch from cubase. For a laugh smiley - erm Ableton *can* do pretty much everything your cubase type thing will do but it's not really it's forte and takes three times as many clicks. I got it to minimise clicking and windows and it doesn't and you... can't...see the...envelopes...AAAAAAARrrrrrrrrrrrrrGHHHH!

Yep it does Rewire, it only costs 50 notes, its free for a month and isn't disabled thereafter. To not give it a go would be folly. smiley - smiley

I shall then.

Got any more new tunes on the go? I've got a few but I'm having trouble finishing them. Probably because they're already finished or unfinishable on some profound level. smiley - ermsmiley - cake

I'm trying to get a live set together so have come up with a couple of things that are playable by a chap with a guitar, two keyboards and a laptop. I can't decide whether or not to have vocals on 'em.

smiley - laugh Can you sing and play a guitar and two keyboards at the same time?

I'd say "don't bother" but I can't sing and aren't a fan of music wiv words in. I suppose the bonus of vocals in a one man live set is if some of your gear goes tits up then you've still got a good focal point. Depends how dancey the set is as well I suppose.

I totally raped Jump the other day. For the uncle funk pump. Bet you can guess the lyric changes. I feel guilty yet strangely elated.

I have a mac- trying to get finale notepad cos my tutor said it's free and the nearest thing to cubase which we use sometimes. Thing is with Cubase, our computers go kaputt when everyone's on it, so they're not exactly reliable, but they've got decent sound cards now so it's all good! smiley - biggrinsmiley - winkeye

I think you can get Ableton live LE and possibly the full version on demo mode. For free smiley - biggrin In demo mode you can use only a limited number of tracks and can't save...BUT, if you're just doing looping stuff it wouldn't take long to set up a set from memory. Not ideal but in terms of live and looping from live stuff you can't beat ableton, and at three hundred quid you're a third of the way there to the full version.

smiley - 2cents
