Introduction
My real name is Mike and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I found h2g2 from the BBC web site. Checking the entries for Melbourne I found an entry on the "hook turns" used here. The writer finished off by saying "no one knows why they are used" or words to that effect. As I and many others do know why we have them, I thought I'd join up to correct this entry. Hopefully something more interesting to write about will occur to me in time.
