Thieves languages

Today I was confronted with an interesting question: Do guidebooks on the secret language spoken by thieves in Spain (and other european countries) in the 17th century. It is questionable if such a language actually existed, but in the public imagination it did. As such, many references can be found to the existence of this coded lingo (Cervantes refers to it in his "Exemplary Stories"). MMMmmmm interesting MMMmmmm ....
