Besides writing about law, Erle Stanley Gardner enjoyed the deserts of the western US. Here is a book you can borrow for 14 days from the internet archive:

Excellent - I appreciate the book recommendation as I have read all the Black Horse Westerns in my local library and it could be a while before they get any more. I see there are a few Erle Stanley Gardner books in the library, so I will have a look at them as well

Thank you smiley - smiley

Well Erle Stanley Gardner has written a lot of Perry Mason books and the ones he wrote as A. A. Fair with Donald Lam and Bertha Cool were really good as well. He did a good job of giving female characters personalities and their own agency especially for the decades of 30s , 40s and 50s.

I started reading Whispering Sands yesterday - just what I needed while I am recovering from a cold.

Interesting so far - different from Black Horse Westerns as motor cars appear, but they still need horses in the desert smiley - ok

I like the name of the hero, too - Bob Zane smiley - smiley

I'm glad you are enjoying it. Get better with your cold you might enjoy some of the Perry Mason books too. There are over 150 in the Internet Library. Most are pretty good. Erle Stanley Gardner is a good tale teller. And his female characters are pretty interesting and he is not a male chauvenist pig.
