Lawn mowers and Snapping Turtles cont.

As I was saying heading to the larger of the 2 KMarts first.

Driving up the Belt Highway I see signs for a block wide garage sale, I thought I would take a look. Some people really go all out at these sales, one yard even had a catering truck in the driveway! Anyway I parked truck and wandered around some garages and front yards, saw a few push mowers ranging from $15 to $100, even Zero turn rider for $4500! I want a mower not a mortgage!!!
I decided that I would walk to the middle of the block and, if nothing caught my eye not just mowerwise I would continue the journey to Kmart.
I crested a rise and there in front of me is all I can describe as Mower Heaven.

The front and side yard of this house was covered with mowers, old style push mowers dating back to the godess only knows when. Pull behinds, self propelled, stand behinds and riders. To be honest I didn't want to go near after the prices further back but I ventured nearer, I had just got to the front yardwhich was neatly mowed whan I heard a voice beside me " You need a rideer for that size yard". Now witch I may be but I drive a pick up not a broom, if I had a broom I would have been home in two seconds flat!!!!!!!!

I say this because I could see all around me on approach to the yard and there was no one anywher near me. I looked round and there was a man I guess in his 70's standing to my left. After what seemed an awkward silence I replied "yes how did you know?"

"I always know what people need" came the answer. Now I may have been projecting I don't know but he lead me to a bright red Murray 30 inch 8hp, past all the other Craftsman, Cub cadets and of course the John Deeres. Believe me there more mowers than I could shake my wand at!

"It is a little under powered I think for my yard 2 acres" He just looked at me and smiled "she will do just fine" he said after a pause "this was the first mower I ever worked on, new blades, all serviced, not as fancy as the others but, she won't let you down" he turned the key and 'she' fired up into life. He hopped into the seat and took off round the yard, engaged the blades and 'she' cut very well.

I dared ask the price "Well" he started.Wait for it my mind said "If you take it today, give me $50 cash. My hand was in my pocket in a flash and I handed him a 50 justt back you truck up hear he said and I'll get some ramps. I was still in shock about the price as I walked to my truck.
He put the ramps upto the tailgate and drove "Mary" the name was painted on the back, into the truck. He then shook my hand and said "she will do just fine". I climbed in to my truck and drove away.

After doing some other shopping (which this witch hates doing) I was getting hungry and remembered the catering truck selling Tex-Mex food, liking spicey food I headed back to the block sales and purchased some Tacos. Wow spicey was not the word!

Driving back over the rise there was not a mower in sight at the old mans house, I slowed down and saw a young couple in the side yard of the next house. I stopped and got out and asked if the old man had packed up selling for the day. A strange look came over both their faces. The man said that no one was selling anything next door infact the people were away."No you must be wrong I just brought a mower"

But I didn't press the issue I told them I may have got the wrong street.
I drove round every street having the block sale and no Old Man selling mowers, but I have 'Mary' sitting in my yard

Lawn mowers and Snapping Turtles

Yesterday (Saturday) was. a strange day, I started out with the usual things shower etc then coffee and toast.
I knew that a journey into St. Joe was needed as I had to get a new mower and the knowledge that I would spend between $600 and $1000 for one. You see 2 acres is a little much to push mow!! I know I did it once!

I guessed that KMart or the mall would be the best bet to start the hunt, and since there are KMarts in St. Joe, I guessed the larger of the two would be best
