Hi Babel!
Peta Started conversation May 17, 2000
I've just seen a really lovely greeting that you posted to a newbie, Thanks.
Would you like to be an Ace? You've definitely got the touch, we'd love to have you on the team...
If so please email Abi. Her address is [email protected]... and she'll bring you into the team.
Peta
Me, an ACE? Cool!
Babel17 Posted May 17, 2000
Thank you for your kind words, and I will take you up on your offer.
I have just emailed Abi, so no doubt I will hear more from her.
The reason I have been greeting newbies this week is because I am Nightshift, and it gets a bit quiet in the wee small hours. Also there don't appear to be many ACE's logged on at 5am
(In their beds like most sensible people!)
Also I had noticed that a few people had been logged on for about 5 days, so I thought, 'Why not?'. I hope it gives the impression that we are a friendly fun place here!
Anyway, thank you, again.
B-17
Congrats!

Can I be the first one to say well done!
5am is the best time to be her I find since nobody is awake and all the pages load fast. I have almost given up trying in the evening.
Congrats!
Babel17 Posted May 25, 2000
Thanks, I think. Do you know something I don't?
I haven't heard anything yet.
Congrats!

*lifts the blue one up and rearanges her hat back on her head again, gently placing the straw in her mouth, squeezing it slightly so that a trickle or reviving fluid finds ts way into her mouth*
Better than Smelling salts anyday!
Congrats!

*blink blink*
Thank you very much!
I live in Kent, and there are lots of Scottish folk here. My next door neighbours on both sides for example. Also, the person I am responsible for at w***. He is a bit of a miserable g** but I suspect this is an act most of the time, rather than a national characteristic.
Congrats!
Babel17 Posted May 27, 2000
Ah well there you go, most of my neighbours are English (one nextdoor is Welsh). And I live in Fife (just across thr water from Edinburgh. Infact from my house you can see Edinburgh Castle and Arthurs Seat)
Congrats!

(whoops, web cam addiction still has a hold!)
I've linked you from my home page now.
Congrats!
Babel17 Posted May 27, 2000
Cool!
Actually, if you go to the Forth Rail Bridge cam, I live on the left hand side of the picture (ish) about 2 miles further along the coast.
Where that photo of the bridge is from is quite a nice hotel. Lovely views. Also I drive past it every day, into work in Edinburgh and out again. in fact if you happen to look at it at about 11.30pm tonight, you might see me zoom past in my metallic Green Corsa.
I'll try and remember to wave.
Thanks for the link. I need to update (actually add) links to people on my homepage, so look out for your name appearing
Have you considered asking Aseroid Lil to do a picture of you, with hat?
Congrats!
coelacanth Posted May 27, 2000
I love web cams! I travel the world, and have loads of indexes (indeces?) in my Favourites. Challenge Coelacanth to find one!
Try this too:

I'll keep a look out for you this evening.
When I went to the meet up in London, Shazz and Pastey told me my picture was ready, but I'm not sure what they will do with it. Of course I don't have a hat on. Anyway, I have no idea how to add pictures to my page!
Congrats!
Babel17 Posted May 27, 2000
Ideally if you have a non h2g2 web site, you can store your pictures there and add a link from your h2g2 page.
If you don't have one, then you need to find some kind soul (or sole) that can store it on their website for you and you link to it there.
I might have my website up and running ina couple of weeks, with plenty of space to spare, so you might want to put it there.
I will tell you how to add it in to your page here, once you find somewhere to store it.
Did you say Kent? My fathers side of the family used to live around there. Sidcup rings a bell.
Congrats!
coelacanth Posted May 27, 2000
This web space thing all sounds very exciting! Your help would be much appreciated. I got very excited when I worked out how to do the colour changy thingy.
I have space with my ISP, but have never used it. I'm quite a private person online actually. However, there is a picture of me from the meet up. (Well, the back of me anyway).
I've just seen a Coelacanth on TV whilst watching a programme about Loch Ness! Looks just like me!
Sidcup is near some rather wonderful caves at Chiselhurst. They have a long history such as being used in WW2 for an air raid shelter, and by the BBC for some Dr Who filming.
I was born in Greenwich, lived in Kent, Essex, Middlesex, Surrey, back to Kent, and soon Hampshire.
Congrats!
Babel17 Posted May 27, 2000
Ah Dr Who. just after I was born, my father graduated from Edin Uni adn then took us down to Bilingshurst, where we lived for about 2 years, then we moved back up to scotland, to an isalnd off the west coast called Islay. 8 ditilleries, don't you know!
Congrats!
coelacanth Posted May 27, 2000
8! HIC!
I have read about your trip to Oz and the vineyard. I've also seen the weather you have in Edinburgh ATM here:

I have just been to the photos again. Which one are you? If you don't mind me asking?

Second row, second from the right.

coelacanth Posted May 27, 2000
WOW! I've added that to my faves as well, despite promising myself that I can give up web cams whenever I want... really I can..
Piicies of the meet up? I'm here:

sitting down, with the stripey back. I couldn't stay long because I had a date with Ralph Feinnes.

Babel17 Posted May 27, 2000
Cool. I would have loved to go but couldn't afford the time to get down.
you have me stumped with the next line of the epic btw.
Storridge might be used by the Aberdonians!
Me I'm Glasgow mother, English father, and very little trace of an accent. Though having spent the last 14 years in Edinburgh again, and working with some broad edinburgh accents, I am getting there finally.
Also read the conversation in 'WHY????' V. funny!
I'm as game as the next person to keep this going at dinner
As for Mr. Feinnes, if I were a woman I would probably go 'Swoon'.
But I'm not, so I won't
