I've been in London for 4 years now and I moved into Golders Green after a month. Yes I am sort of getting itchy feet again but I want to stay with this job at least 6-12 months to see how it goes and get some good experience as well.
Ok so you've got the unfeasable bit sorted the,

I know that feeling, can you just update some data at 4:55. Finished it at 5:20, made the opticians at 5:40
How do you lose a mainframe, did it just up and walk out, or was it hiding under the floor

pedant!
How was the opticians? What did they say? Has your vision settled down a bit more now?
We lost a logical partition, which resulted in having to IPL all the other partitions on the other boxes. We only just got it cleared by 7am, and now are mopping up the repercussions. long day.

They opt said my eye's looked fine and healthy
What sort of lenses is it that you're going for?
Got in this morning to find that the links to our mainframe went down overnight. NOw trying to rerun all those jobs that should run overnight and connect to the mainframe. Why a bloomin friday.

LOL, sound exactly like the situation our schedulers are in just now, trying to catch up
And as to why it's a Friday, that says it all really.
I ended up getting Hard gas permeable again, cos the toric lenses, while easier on the eye don't have the same clarity of vision, so I opted for pain and clarity over ease and cloudy
Drinks tonight? or waitng until the do tomorrow?

I don't think I'll be going back to RGP lenses. Getting the daily disposables was such a great feeling when I put them in That, the cost of the dailies and wanting to wear them for watersports meant RGPs were out. I may go for some longer wear ones (like the month long ones) as they're better for your eyes if you wear them all the time, but working with computers and wearing contact lenses doesn't mix as well as it should I find
I think we're getting there, it's just some of these processes take several hours to run and don't run when everybody else is trying to do the same thing with their processes. Still should be interesting to hear the explanation of what went wrong (we own the mainframe but outsource the running of it).
How's your day today been, a bit quieter?

Babel17 Posted Aug 31, 2001
Yes, I can understand how you feel. I may review the situation next year when they are up for renewal, but for now, I am happy.
I know what you mean about today. Own the mainframe but outsource the running? sounds familiar
Today has been basically clearing up the mess left behind from yesterday. They didn't get everything IPl'ed until 7am this morning. at which point we had all our systems, unfortunately you then spend the day sorting out all the things that have been knocked for 6 by a situation like this. Messy is a polite word I feel

Fair enough.
I really could do with some right now I think. It's been one of those days. Messy is a very polite word to describe it!
