To the point!
Solsbury Started conversation Aug 28, 2001
Hi, how's it going and all that
Been busy recently (looks like you have), hope you've been enjoying yourself, I have been doing so.
Can't stop right now, off home from work.
Later.
To the point!
Babel17 Posted Aug 29, 2001
Huh, serves me right for not subscribing to my own conversations otherwise I might have actually seen this yesterday
Sorry. How are things with you then? All well? Yes I have been rather busy of late, what with dad and then pegasus up last week and then off for the long weekend, and straight back into dayshift again.
One thing I notice about the 12-hours is that I have less time for emails and stuff, I am resorting to using my work email more and more again. Oh well.
So tell me what's been keeping you busy then. Good things? Gossipy things? I'm all ears

Solsbury Posted Aug 29, 2001
Not a problem, I sort of guessed that was the case yesterday and thought I'd leave it for you to see.
Have a good time with your dad (you did seem a bit cheerier whne you'd seen him) and 'sus going up as well, what a few weeks.
I tend to do a lot of emails and stuff from work anyway, both with work and home emails, chatting with friends and of course spending far too much time on here...
Me I've been getting into the swing of things with the new job, it's going well so far. I'll be off on a course in a weeks or so, so that's good. Otherwise I've been spending a lot of weekends away recently seeing friends and family and enjoying time spent out of London.

Babel17 Posted Aug 29, 2001
Glad to hear it
Still fed up with work tho, and no idea what i want to do. Really should do something about it.
Not sure whether I should try this or that, or what really. Just depressing myself a lot
This place gets me down too much. Ah well. Trying to remain happy and look towards my next time off.

Have you thought any further about going to oz?
I'm starting getting to see some of the more interesting things here, but I don't know how long it'll be before I'm bored and get itchy feet again.
Keep seems like as good a philosphy on life as you can get.

Babel17 Posted Aug 29, 2001
Oz is an option, Dad was saying that even if I was to put an application in ou are looking from between 18 months to 3 years, and even then you don't have to go, so perhaps I should just put an application in anyway.
One minute I think, yeah, cool, the next no don't want to. I must be or something.
I should just do it and be damned. If I don't like it or it doesn't work out I can come back can't I?
To the point!
Solsbury Posted Aug 29, 2001
You can come back (several of my cousins have done) after going out there and getting your passport if you want.
This of course assumes you'll be going for dual nationality rather than just a work visa.
Have you sent out your CV to anyone recently (or chased those who have it)?
To the point!
Babel17 Posted Aug 29, 2001
True, true.
Nope. Done nothing recently. Tho someone else at the Royal asked for my CV. Still nothing from my original application. Fine, I don't really want to uproot myself just to do exactly the same thing there. Especially since I heard one of our recent ex-manglers is now in charge of their transition program there now. No thank you. Glad to be away from them. I still need to sit down and identify what I can do. But being such a procrastinator.......
You off home soon then? Last hour for me
To the point!
Solsbury Posted Aug 29, 2001
Sit down and think what you can, do. Probably take ages to list it all
Always good to get inside info on what's going on before applying anywhere.
I'll be off in just a couple of ticks. In early tomorrow as I want to leave early (optician appointment at 5:30)
Later

Babel17 Posted Aug 29, 2001

Enjoy the evening. I have Opticians on Sat to see how my contact lenses and I are making out

Phil Posted Aug 29, 2001
Well if you want anyone to cast eyes over any attempt, I'm sure lots of folks round here will be willing to help.
Not much planned tonight, an early one I hope.
Had a phone call inviting me out for a bit of a gathering on saturday for my mate who's off to the states. Should be good as I had to run at his leaving drinks.
Later mate.

Babel17 Posted Aug 30, 2001
Ta for the offer. Need to actually do the work first tho
Nice one. Should be a laugh then. At least you get to catch up with him before he heads out West. Not sure what I'm up to as yet. Maybe drinks with neighbours or something. Not sure. Suburbia is hell sometimes.
havea ood day and I'll catch you later. Good luck at the opticians later.

Solsbury Posted Aug 30, 2001
ood, odd, good, whatever I'm sure it'll be interesting.
Oh for the joys of living in the 'burbs. Might well be nicer than living in bedsit land cos that's all you can afford and don't feel like going into a shared house again!
To the point!
Babel17 Posted Aug 30, 2001
LOL, sorry. Typos at this stage in the day can't be good Doesn't bode well for the rest of the following 9 & 1/2 hours
Well, I never thought of myself as living in the Burbs. I always imagined I'd be in a flat, or an old house of some description. Not this. I understand how you feel about 'shared' houses.

The first time I read I thought it said odd, then realised that it should have been good, made me smile
I'd much rather be somewhere else, I never thought I'd end up living how I do. The furtehr up the career ladder I've got, the lower down the housing scale I've gone! Never wanted or expected to end up in the big city, just wanted a nice place in a medium sized town where I could get out to the country without too much difficulty (I think I still do).

Babel17 Posted Aug 30, 2001
Glad it made you smile then
I'd much rather be somewhere else too, I just am not sure where.
Unfortuntaley you have to offset the quality of accommodation against travel times (ie how much it eats into your free time, which ultimately is the goal you strive towards) The only reason I come to work these days is the money.
I would like to get back to the time when I actually enjoyed going to work. Somehow I don't think it will happen, at least not for a decade or two anyway
To the point!
Solsbury Posted Aug 30, 2001
It WILL happen, and it'll happen sooner than you think.
There is also the quality of travel as well. When I get the tube between 7:30 and 8 in the morning, it's not bad, I can normally get a seat and it doesn't get too crowded till the main lin station. Between about 8:15 and 9 eugh, very crodwed trains, same in the evening Still if I want to keep the job I've got (which enables me to do all the things I do) I've got to put up with it.
To the point!
Babel17 Posted Aug 30, 2001
My point exactly, tho I would assume it wouldn't hurt to spend a bit of time looking for another place. you might be pleasantly surprised.
I hope it happens sooner rather than later. I might do something drastic and/or silly otherwise, just so that I have to do something about it. I have ideas, but most are unfeasable.
To the point!
Solsbury Posted Aug 30, 2001
I'm sure I can put up with the conditions for as long as I'm planning on staying around (would you believe I've now lived there for the longest time in any one place since leaving home must be time to move soon )
Why are your ideas unfeasable?
To the point!
Babel17 Posted Aug 30, 2001
Most of my ideas are unfeasable because they involve me going back in time about 10 years
Really/ How long is that then? For the last 15 years I seem to spend no more than 3 years in any one place and find myself moving again without fail. That means I have a year left where I am currently (which may be true depending on what I do!)
