It's oh so quiet, it's oh so still....
Babel17 Posted Aug 12, 2001
No. However, what I am thinking is to get a decent microphone and get dad on IM. Try that and see how the quality is.
Might be worth the hassle certainly cheap enough. Just need to get the timing right. Need to discuss many things PC related when he is here. Like "Dad, just get a new one" and "Look how can I build your website if I don't have any info" and "Sign up for IM so we can chat for free"
Going to be very strange, and doubt I'll be on here much Naturally I will need to try and keep up the MC threads, but I'll just have to let everything else slide. Probably best to put a disclaimer at the top of my page or something
PS I knew you wouldn't resist posting at least something to Pegasus Journal entry on her dream. She wants comments, honest.
When is your friend there? And where are they going while there?

Have you seen this out of curiosity? http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F48874?thread=134403

My friend is there already. She started in Sydney, been somewhere else to give a lecture at a conference, and in Adelaide at the moment. Then on to Queensland, and also taking in NZ. She's back in September, but is looking for a 3 year post doc place there for January. So it's a working trip with lots of holiday time too.
You'll need headphones too for the IM otherwise you get confused. I have tiny personal stereo ones that are less than £10.
Have a great week anyway. Couldn't the MC crew tie you up or something? Mutiny for a week? Did the site I sent give you any ideas?
The dream seems fairly straightforward to me! Wish fulfillment perhaps do you think?

Simulpost!
Read the Entry. Hmmm. Social life????
It's a nice clear Entry that tells it like it is.
Sunshine and Moonlight are not really children, more like small flatmates. Non confrontational and very funny people. They've never been a problem at all, but the AP still isn't much bothered, which leaves me with no chance does it.

Well there you go, she's in Adelaide and dad is here. One out one in.
She'll love it. Hope she finds time in amongst her hectic schedule to see some sights.
I think I remember you mentioning this before, it was the 3 year bit that sparked a memory.
Headphones, do you? Where do you plug thwemin then? Into the soundcard? Hmm, perhaps a headset with phones and a mic.
Plenty of personal stereo sets lying around at home for asome reason.
I will have a great week. "Mutiny, Mr Christian? On my ship?" Not if I can help it, we are already 2 down. I suggest you speak to WM and get Lizzie to spot the while looking over the side one day, then you can swim past a few tmes and we can all ook and EV in his character will no doubt shout "An Omen! We're all doomed"
I'll look at the site some more on Tuesday morning when I should have a few hours to myself before picking up my dad again.
Wish fulfillment is a possibility.

*coughs loudly*
Wish fulfilment! I'm sure the meanings were far deeper than they might at first appear...
Did I see you laughing at me earlier Mr 17? It's these young 'uns... they just don't have the staying power. In bed by 9.45pm... *shakes head in disbelief*
Had a very nice grande coffe latte and pain au chocolat at Starbucks though, thanks to the excellent suggestion made earlier.

Was that a stomping horse?
Plug the headphones in the headphones socket. On the laptop this has an arrow (why?) and it's next to the mike socket. On the dead pc its helpfully marked "Phones" and is on the front of the box.

I shouldn't be here now, I only logged on for a bit and I have so much to do!
I have phone with me today so feel free to ring at any time
better go!

Did you experience that sense of actually 'being there' down the phone then?
I still can't believe I did three full days without h2g2... without any Internet access at all! Could get to be a habit if I'm not careful...
