Hi B-17. Looks like you're doing earlies this week. At least it's the right shift for the weather. Got a question. Is it alright to use plain html on my homepage, or are we restricted to guide ml?
Hope work wasn't too bad today, and what he hell, it's a long week-end.

HI, sorry, i did see your other post, but haven't had a chance to get back to you, sorry.
Actually i am on Backshift 4pm-11pm, just been busy again tonight.
Unfortunately some of us are only off on Sunday this week, as I have to do overtime to cover holidays and also the bank holiday, so I am seeing little of this wonderful weather we are experiencing. How sad, eh?
Anyway, to your question. We used to be able to use HTML on our pages, but with the last upgrade to the site, they kind of put the kybosh on it, as the servers were working overtime to parse html into guideml and back again (don't ask me why) but this should give you some more insight into things:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A155701 also this is very handy too:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/C801
And the reason for no HTML can be found here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A516430 about a 1/3rd up from the bottom.
Hope this helps

Please don't apologise. Anyone doing 4 till 11's deserves all the breaks they can get. What time do you have to get up? 3, 2:30? What a b-----rd. Thanks for the tips. It was just when I saw 'jump to' menu's on your page I started wondering. I didn't know guide ml was that versatile.

Go to bed at about 1am, get back up at 9am, have the morning to potter, head to work at about 3.15pm, start at 4pm, finish at 11.15pm, drive home, stay up till about 1am Simple, really. Best shift in the world, apart from rest week
Yep, did all that in GuideML, the drop downs are courtesy of GuideML Gadgets, with a touch of tweeking on my part to slightly personalise them

My advise to you is to do a search on say 'personal' that should then hightlight where the header is and you can work it out from there, or if you have an email address, i could send you the basic GuideML code and you can play and cut and paste to your hearts content.
Click on the 'Yikes' button just above the conversations on my page, cunningly disguised email addy, or just hover and up it pops in the bottom of your browser window, assuming you are on IE, that is

Boy did I get that wrong. I read it as 4AM to 11am. The reality sounds more than manageable. I'm stuck on 2pm to 10 pm and 6am to 2pm one week on one week off. But enough of this shift talk. I have yet to have that flash of inspiration that would provide me with the means to avoid having to go back to work. I'm cogitating fiercely, and have a little time to go yet. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the tips on guide ml. I think I'll keep it simple for the moment, as I am essentially terribly lazy.

Nasty. Sorry to hear you've injured yourself. I'm on the road to recovery, but had to attend the brother in law's 50th birthday over the weekend. He had 3 barrels of good beer + wines too numerous to mention. I couldn't touch a drop because of my kidneys. Bah. Still, it was a novelty to remember everything, and a double novelty not being the one who passed out or threw up. Managed a little herbal analgesic, though, so it wasn't a complete wash-out.
Hope you're on the mend soon.

Babel17 Posted May 29, 2001
hee hee hee.
Pity about the beer and wine, but your kidneys are more important to your wellbeing and continued existance, than getting smashed and killing off a few million brain cells.
Back is getting better. I slept quite well last night, for a change.
But on the dreaded dayshift this week, so early starts for the next 6 days

Unfortunately, all systems are go for the early sift commencing moday, 6 till 2's. A bugger to wake up to, by by the time breakfast has been digested and you've woken up properly, you're almost half-way through the day. Never mind. Off on holiday soon to look at the biospheres in Cornwall. Might take in the gardens of Helligan while we're down that way. Have fun.

Well, having nearly completed my alloted dayshifts for this week (last one tomorrow) I can't wait for Monday and restweek to commence. Thankfully I avoid all shifts for the next 3 weeks as I head off on holiday next saturday for 2 weeks. Yes! But i have to come back to dayshift again , but then only for a week and it's rest week again, followed by the London meet-up Busy busy busy.
Let me know about Cornwall (been a long time since I was last there)
and I'll speak to you soon
