Hello you! Funnily enough, I was thinking of dropping by your page and leaving a message, since it has been ages since we last spoke.
I'm not too bad, Jane is ok. Working hard as per usual, she was in London today and will be in Aberdeen on Friday. Still hardly see her, more often than not it's ships that pass in the night. Such is the life of a shiftworker. Now that is something, I am fed up with my job, and basically only still do it because the money is good, but things are afoot here. They want to try and move us onto 12 hour shifts, to which i am not happy about. So I might have to start looking for a new job (very nervous about that, because I doubt I'll get anything that is as well paid with the same amount of time off) An alternative is to seriously consider going to Australia, where I could get a job I want to do, for less money, but it would go further, so I wouldn't be quite so badly off. That idea is just as nerve wracking! Apart from that, everything else trundles along.
So what about you? What's new in your life? Are you going to either of the coming meet-ups? I might go down to the London one, if I can find somewhere to stay.

12 hours is an awful long time to expect someone to remain coherent... and yes, the prospect of swapping sides of the world is more than a little daunting; good luck in figuring out the best thing to do!
Andy and I are hoping to go to the London meetup, and since the Manchester one is merely a busride away, I don't see that I can justify not going!
I'm fine; my exams are a lot of a stress, but all but one are done now. I don't know if I've passed, it feels very touch and go, so I'm just hoping and praying for the best...

Well, I don't want to do them, so they will have one very grumpy and sour faced, reticent shiftworker on their hands.
It will take quite some time to organise should we decide to go, but that is a sort of last resort. I'd rather try and stay here for a bit longer.
So London possibly. That would be good, would be nice to see you again. I won't make Manchester though, but perhaps you want to go for the triple and head up to Edinburgh again, late August perhaps?
I'm not going to organise anything just yet.
if this is the last lot of Exams and you have most of them out the way, then you are on the last straight Hurrah. I am sure you will have done well, i have every faith in you...

And your grumpiness and sourfacedness might infect the rest of the workforce, lessening productivity and making it a dangerously unfriendly atmosphere to work in...
I'd be very happy to head up to Edinburgh again. Andy and I are planning to get the train up there for the day if we can find the time at the end of term actually, because he's only ever been to Scotland once!

Babel17 Posted May 24, 2001
Exactly my point
Godd for you. You seem to be happy, which is good. When is end of term for you? I am off on holiday as of 9/6 until 24/6 so If you decide to come up then, I'll miss you, but after that, just let me know, because I will be dayshift then restweek, and with Mr Demon Drawer up here too now, we could get a few people together
Any excuse

...and then if the boss walks into the dangerously unfriendly room, he might... erm.. change his mind?
I've really no idea of dates, but it may well be within that time window - exams finish on the 31st, then we're away for a week, then I think the week after that's quite busy, and then before you know it graduations are happening... and its all *much* too confusing for me, I can't cope!!
However I'll find away to pop up to Edinburgh and scare you all at some point...
Wandering by
Babel17 Posted May 25, 2001
Yes! That's the idea. I personally feel that any manager should be heard and not seen. ie keep them all away in a wee room somewhere where they cannot interfere in the daily workings of the department.
Sounds like a busy time over the next few weeks for you. But I am sure you will cope
And as to scaring us, I have no idea what you mean. You know you are more than welcome anytime. If i'm free, i'm free.
So when is graduation?
Wandering by
J'au-æmne Posted May 25, 2001
Thats a very good question.... wish I knew the answer... its about the 27th, I think...
you're right about managers, they should so be supressed....

You must let us know if there are any photo's
27th of June? or is it July? (July I would assume, trying to remember back to when all his mates graduated and he didn't cos he had a resit )

J'au-æmne Posted May 25, 2001
June We like to get stuff over with quickly here... hopefully theres gonna be enough space at Andy's graduation dinner for me... *crosses fingers*
Wandering by
Babel17 Posted May 26, 2001
*keeps fingers crossed (have asked for a fingers crossed smiley, by the way )*
Yes I went to Jane's do. It was ok, but another reason to depress me, since I still had the resit looming. Ah well. Did you know I never attended a graduation ceremony, because after passing the resit, the next ceremony was in November, adn I was in Australia by then. So no pics of me in a gown & mortat board having John Knox underpants waved over my head (probably just as well )

Thats a good idea for a smiley...
I guess you'll just have to do a Master's degree. Then you can have a replacement ceremony...

Ah to be able to afford giving up work and going back to study. Always wanted to be a mature student
when I win the Lottery, that's exactly what i am going to do. Don't know what course, perhaps Blacksmith (always wanted to make my own sword) or do a course in Dry stone walling (always fancied that too for some bizzare reason. I think it has to do with making things out of natural resources)
Wandering by
J'au-æmne Posted May 29, 2001
Making your own sword sounds like a laudable goal... ...and you can use it to fend of political candidates who come around visiting, too... apparently the local labour candidate called, wanting to know if my housemate would vote for him... ...she said no!
Wandering by
Babel17 Posted May 30, 2001
Hee hee hee. That would be an interesting scenario.
*Knock at door*
[Candidate]
Hello, I am your local candidate for *****, I was wondering if I could count on your vote next Thursday.
[Me]
I'm sorry, the answer would have to be No.
[Candidate]
Really? on what grounds?
[Me]
On the grounds that I have a large broadsword and I'll chase you down the street if you don't leave me alone. Plus I don't like your policy on the homeless
Wandering by
J'au-æmne Posted May 30, 2001
And then, if the candidate you were going to vote for came by, you could offer to defend him with it...
Wandering by
Babel17 Posted May 30, 2001
Ah, but only if thay were worthy of defending.
So far, I'm not convinced by anyone I see.
Wandering by
J'au-æmne Posted May 30, 2001
So you could then pretend to like one of them but actually get them fewer votes by parading around with the sword and intimidating people, or something...
I don't like any of them either. They're just maddening, but then someone said if you don't like democracy try moving to Zimbabwe or somewhere...

'Vote for Blah, or we lop yer heads off!'
interesting campaign slogan.
Yes, admittedly while it is a poor show here, we are in a better position than many countries around the world. Still, it would be nice to have something you could at least attempt to believe in.
But we shouldn't be talking about such things. At least not until after next Thursday
