Andrea Lawendel
I was born in 1959 only, but my family history is strongly intertwined with War time years. My father Jan was born in Warsaw in 1918 and managed to escape to Italy (and Switzerland) thanks to earlier family ties with the country. He decided not to leave Italy at the War's end and my grandmother Tosia Minc Lawendel also lived in Milan until her death in 1985. My Italian mother, Bianca Maria Borsari, was born in Palermo in 1926, to an Italian Methodist minister. Having suffered Palermo's heavy bombings she moved to Milan in 1947, where she completed her piano studies at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory.
As for me, I never really completed my scientific studies, but I'm still involved in science and technology communication as a freelance journalist. I'm writing for the Corriere della Sera and other papers and trade magazines ( http://www.corriere.it/corrforum/corriere/Intro?forumid=7" >http://www.corriere.it/corrforum/corriere/Intro?forumid=7 ).
I'm also quite active in the long distance radio reception hobby. BBC radio listeners may perhaps find intriguing informations about this on some of our Web sites, www.radioascolto.org/html/index.php or http://www.faiallo.org/oulueng.html" >http://www.faiallo.org/oulueng.html ). British readers should turn to locally based organizations such as Medium Wave Circle, http://www.mwcircle.org/" >http://www.mwcircle.org/ , The British Dx Club ( http://www.bdxc.org.uk/" >http://www.bdxc.org.uk/ ) or the British FM & TV Circle ( http://www.skywaves.info/" >http://www.skywaves.info/ ). In this context, I hardly need mentioning Bletchley Park, http://www.bletchleypark.org.uk/" >http://www.bletchleypark.org.uk/ as one of the War's paramount focal points.
