smiley - smiley Managed to find you over here, great this is fun! Feel free to add me to your friends list if you wish smiley - hug It's great how you can express yourself in different ways over here.

Not sure if we'd made the family history connection before, but it's something I'm really into. Have managed to go back on both sides to around about 1806, how about you?

Auntie Prue

Hello LP.

Stephen and I have both been doing each other's family trees for some time now - and have got back into the 18th C.

I have also "done" two of my son in law's family trees - one of which, thanks to some help from others, we got way back into the 16thC.

My lot are rather dull East Anglian farmers on my father's side - but my mother's is more interesting. A few years back, after my mother had died, we discovered that he grandfather, who was Canadian, was officially black. Both his parents were black - his father being born in USA at the begining of the 19thC. I haven't been able to trace is exact whereabouts - but have been thrilled with the idea of his coming to Canada via the Underground Railroad to escape slavery.

Not sure why I am boring you with all this - so please feel free to swap family history stories to get your own back smiley - biggrin

Not boring me at all, it's very interesting smiley - ok please feel free to add some more (really).

Quickly (for now smiley - winkeye) my mother's side has apparently been traced back to the Doomsday book - there were some aristo's on that side and various earthy scandals too. However, the family tree was lost in the blitz much to my Great Aunt's devastation. Clearly it should be possible to retrace - it helps that they appear for most of the last 3 centuries to hardly have moved within a 2 square mile radius! (A bit of a limited gene pool me thinks)

I've not had time to follow this lot up and have spent more time on my Dad's side, not least because so little seemed known about it. Anyway, for a start I represent the 5th generation of male in my family to return from the USA - which takes a bit of doing given none of us is an ethnic American!

Also my Great Great Grandad was quite a charachter had 20+ children with two seperate wives, and was heavily involved with the Mormon's and Brigham Young out at Salt Lake City.

Well you asked!!! smiley - smiley

Do fill in more, I think it's a topic you either find totally facinating or just don't get it.

Mustard Flavoured FAQ's

Full on Rodent problems meant I've had to create this new loggin, grrr, anyway Lè Phantom is now Le_Phantom.

It's all down to the fact that as I'd originally come via the Points of View Board this place would not function correctly on the old account. The BBC did not bother to tell me so I'm having to reset everything, oh deep joy!smiley - erm There will be some from ML who will go spare if this happens to them, so top tip is join up through h2g2!

I'll remove the first Lè Phantom when I've completed the transition.

Thanks

LP

Hello LP - glad your techie problems have been sorted out.

Looking forward to having a good family history chat with you soon - am busy for the next few days - then off for a short break - including a Murder Weekend in Winchester (with OH, a daughter and son in law) - so won't be around for a while.

I should really get OH to chat to you because his family are all Yorkshire or Lancs - mainly Whitby, Manchester and Liverpool. He runs the Yahoo Whitby list, and spends spare moments transcribing 18th C Whitby ships muster rolls.

Take care.

Susan

Will look forward to that, don't murder any relies in the meantime by accident at your party smiley - smiley!

My lot are Manchester for 5 generations then Wales and Ireland as far as I know. My mother's side are repsonsible for most of the population of Stockport for several centuries back!

I'm probably related to your OH!

Have a good break
