First idea of an Update Process.

Hi Milla,

As I'm at work I can't put a document up there. Instead, I'll try to write out how I see the process working as an overview:

Entry enters Update forum (1).

Members of the forum discuss its needs:
(a)No changes needed - forum/entry updated by Publisher [end of process].
(b)Simple changes - go to the Curators - forum/entry updated by Publisher [end of process].
(c)Large changes - Entry is added to the To Be Updated list/forum by Publisher (2).

Entry is taken on by a Researcher (3). Forum updated by Researcher.

When editing is completed, Entry enters the PR process as normal (4).

When/if the new Entry is given Approved status, Publisher to update the forum and to demote the original Entry to ordinary status.

(1) There are two ways - either it is nominated by a Researcher or it is being looked at because it is scheduled for its standard review (say, once every two years). That latter part is something I feel very strongly that should be included. It is only my opinion though, even though I haven't found anyone who'll contradict me.
(2) This could be part of the Challenge h2g2 forum, or combined with the Flea Market. The original author must be contacted first out of courtesy though.
(3) Copy made of original to become the new draft. Original author contacted as normal, Entry is in joint names with original author unless it is completely new work.
(4) This is my opinion here. At the moment the person taking on the Entry becomes the Sub, which severely limits the number of people who can take on Updates. I would like an Update to be treated just like an ordinary Entry, which I think fits with your other diagrams.

Also, perhaps the original entry should remain unchanged, but *always* referenced in the updated entry.
I would also like the original to be amended with just a link to the update.
This way, we have the history intact, and the new one can have it's on Entry-ID.

I'll move on with expanding the diagram.

Mrs. Zen,
Could you put the "Decisions ... decisions" document on Google Docs as well please? It will enable me, and I think others, to keep an eye on it along with the other documents already there.
Perhaps a Google account for h2g2c2 with a Google Docs space for all the documents ?

I can see it. But at work, in IE6, so can't really work with google docs.

It's ok if you can't edit it, the important thing is that we can show it.
