Since my contribution will consist mostly of what little money I can spare, is there a bank, Pay Pal or other account where we can deposit money? Would the Beeb consider being the caretaker of that account until we chop the anchor rope? Would there be any advantage to registering us as a non-profit organisation in the UK?

I think they've already registered the Consortium in the UK. There may also be an email address that you can send a message to regarding the amount that you want to pledge. Haragai mentioned such an address, but I don't know if it's official yet. Hopefully, someone from the Consortium will have more informayion about this.

Hi CL Zoomer (and Paul).
We're not taking donations yet, because we don't want to take people's hard earned cash until we know that there's something to donate too. We don't yet know if we'll need to raise moeny, as bidding for h2g2 and taking it over ourselves is only one possible outcome.
We're considering setting up a means where people can 'pledge' that they will pay a sum of money if need, again we'll be sure to annouce that if we decide to do it.
We haven't yet set up a not-for-profit, not because we odn't want to, but because the process of deciding who gets to take over h2g2 isn't complete. Setting up a not-for-profit costs money and we don't want to spend money that we don't have to spend, especially if it's not our money to spend.

Thanks, Z. Partly I'm motivared by guilt that I got something of a free ride from the BBC for ten years while millions of U.K. citizens paid their yearly fees.
But I would be delighted if another solution presented itself, and my guilt could be redirected toward something else -- global warming, perhaps? Soil erosion in the coffee-growing areas of the world? The innocent animals that I've been eating all these years? There's plenty else to feel guilty about....
