I'm working on the Bodyline entry at A38208035.
I know nothing about cricket so I'm very much assuming that you've got all the terminology right. There just a few sentences I'm not sure are correct.
"Sutcliffe, Jardine, Hammond and Ames all fell early, leaving the score on 30 for 4, and it was only some gutsy half-centuries by the English lower-order batsman, supported by a useful 45 from the bowler Hedley Verity, that propelled England to a first-innings total of 341."
It seems odd that you don't name this lower-order batsman. Am I misreading it?
"Bill Ponsford's cautious 85 was the backbone of innings of 222."
The grammar of that doesn't seem right. "backbone of innings of 222" sounds as if you intended to say "backbone of an innings of 222".

Well you've taken on an Entry I always suspected a sub would try to avoid . I'll give it one final read over to check on the terminology and such - hopefully sometime today.
That should be 'batsmen', plural, because there were several of them.
Your suggested correction to Bill Ponsford's innings is correct .

The links you provided to the three Dangermouse photographs do not work. You've done something which is frowned upon on the Net, linked directly to a photo rather than to the page that the photo is on. The owner of the photos has code on his website which specifically forbids this, so the links won't work.
I've raised this issue with the eds a few times (for other entries) but they have not responded.
Can you provide me with a link to the pages the photos were on and we might be able to sort this out.

The page the photos were on is http://www.dangermouse.net/cricket/history/bodyline.html. The photogrpahs aren't really vital but I do think it adds something to have a real visual aid to what it was like. I didn't know linking directly wasn't the done thing. Is that because you can effectively 'steal' the photo by using it without going via the page it is hosted for?

I think I'll link to that page with something like "Click here for a more detailed report on Bodyline, if that's OK.
The thing about not linking to pictures is not well known, and although I've always tried to remove such links from entries I'm editing, there's nothing in the house rules about it. THis is the first time I've seen a website actually rejecting links.
Key: Complain about this post
