I'm smiley - sorry if I have hurt your feelings in anyway regards one of your Entries. I really don't mean to offend anyone. I am only trying to help by suggesting a way in which you could write. I smiley - love your Entries and will continue to read them if you want me to.

smiley - sorry

Oh, don't worry about it Opti. I understood the motive behind your comments, so I honestly didn't take any offence. Please continue to read (and comment) on my entries! I'm sure you know as well as I do that it's far worse to come back to a PR entry you submitted to find no comments than it is to find some criticism (constructive, of course smiley - winkeye).

smiley - tasmiley - smiley I'm pleased that someone understands me.

I remember at High School I went to tell the teacher something and they didn't understand, so a friend would translate even though we all spoke English.

I agree with regards to the commenting. I currently feel a little unsupported with the Churchill Entry...I guess I've risen to a challenge that may be beyond me.

Anyway, I'll watch myself more from now on.

Yes, I saw the Churchill entry in PR. I skimmed it, but felt I couldn't really offer anything helpful smiley - smiley. I once started an entry on the Spanish Inquisition, then realised that without a heck of a lot of research it would be a bit of a waste. So I've put that on the (possibly indefinite) backburner. But in terms of Entries no challenge is really beyond anyone. I think the entry (or series of entries as I see it has been changed to) will be a huge challenge for you - it will take a lot of work. I once spent months on a University project on the Graeco-Persian Wars.

That's smiley - oksmiley - smiley I think that the Entry is all there now, but then again I think it's one of those Entries that could be gone over and over with different viewpoints from people who would like to see it in diferent ways. You get my drift? Similarly the political part could be argued to be all there except that it could be elaborated on etc so for now I'm planning on just doing the first part and leaving the second part to someone more politically minded, unless it doesn't need that much detail. Confused?

Oh absolutely. I think that applies to both Bodyline and Churchill.

PS. Looking at the weather charts there's a nice little depression coming over for the weekend. Hopefully you'll miss the worst of it for the carnival.

Perhaps it is therefore possible to apply that theory to any Entry

The carnival takes place on the Sunday. I don't hold out much belief in weather forcasts after smiley - fish

Oh, they've improved light years since then! Sure, sometimes they say it's going to rain somewhere and it doesn't but the general idea is pretty accurate. And looking at this depression out in the Atlantic, it looks like it's dead set on heading through the UK. Still, I hope it doesn't rain too much.

Well the rain came and it went and came again. I will write up a journal posting sometime and lt you in on the ups and downs of the weekend. smiley - smiley

Hope you had a good one smiley - smiley

Just thought you may like to know that my piece on the lead up to, including the carnival may be appearing in smiley - thepost

PS. Do you think I should take out my Entries from Peer Review?

That's good to hear, Opti! I saw your journal entry but have yet to get around to reading your account.

Looking at your Capone Entry and the comments on it, I must say I can see where they are coming from. I can't really think of anything constructive to add. ST and Matt gave some good advice. Write about stuff you are *really* interested in, and do a lot of research. I tend to have a lot more material than I actually put into an Entry, because I think it's important to get a lot of background information.

Hope that helps smiley - smiley.

That's smiley - ok I understand rl makes one busy smiley - smiley

smiley - ok I guess if I have any future in writing I should question everything I write before I put it in next time (if there's a next time).

There will be a next time Opti! Just wait until you feel like it. If you feel like writing, do it, and see what people think. If you don't, then wait for a bit and see. I write a lot less than I used to but I feel happier doing it this way at the moment. I'm also quite proud of the entries I write at the moment. So give it time smiley - smiley. Wait and see what happens, eh?

Hi There

I know what you say is sensible advice, but a part of me is itching to write as many as some of the others do.

Hi There

Some of the others are machines. Not literally, of course smiley - winkeye. When I was writing a lot I was partly driven by wanting to 'keep up', but now I don't bother. There's nothing stopping you writing that much, but don't compromise on quality: research it thoroughly and try and make it detailed and entertaining. I know that's very easy to say, though. I still struggle with making my entries lively. I've given up trying to shoehorn humour in. I just try and keep the tone easy and conversational. I'm rambling a little now...

Don't worry Opti, I'm sure it will come together eventually. Write as much as feel you can/want, then try to take on board the suggestions offered to you.

smiley - laugh I know what you mean. smiley - smiley I have been so keen to get my next badge that I haven't been writing Entries that I truly do smiley - love

I have an inkling that the reason for GB helping me get my latest journal entry in smiley - thepost is that she has noticed that I can write pieces that are factual, natural, entertaining and can be related to.

In my piece I talk about mirrors and come to realise that's not the first time I've had problems with them. I also froze when I saw myself reading the autocue at a BBC open day. I've noticed that some of my other journals could have been expanded to go into smiley - thepost too. smiley - sorry probably sounding big headed there.

smiley - shhh don't tell anybody but...I think one of my weaknesses is that I have got confused with English grammar. Thats the problem when you've learnt three languages.

smiley - dontpanic regards rambling please ramble on smiley - smiley

Hi There

Which languages would those be?

Hi There

My mother tongue is English. I have also learnt French and Latin.

Hi There

Yes, Latin grammar is quite different from what I know. And notoriously difficult.

I smiley - love reading things with foreign writing or hearing others speak it. It's almost like becoming detective.
