I like the bar sketch, its got character now smiley - smiley
Cartoony series like this usually go down well on alt.ascii-art, I've not got usenet access at the moment, and they've not yet appeared on deja yet smiley - sadface

Jave has lots of cool features, including my line style and a font of mine smiley - smiley

I like the bar doodle too, the robot (I don't know what to call him) looks much cooler there. I especially like how the sword and his right arm turned out. smiley - smiley It's weird though, all of my pics started out as attempts at serious stuff -- the second one was meant to be some Superman pose and the third one an evil looking pose where he's tired after killing lots and lots of people -- and then I suddenly see the humour in it and turn it into something completely different.

As for the usenet stuff, you haven't missed anything much. No replies so far...

What font did you do? Rot13?

Hmm, this is strange. Although Deja doesn't have my postings, it has a couple that I received long after posting. How long does it take for Usenet postings to propagate across the net? Or is the server I'm using f'd up somehow..?

I moved my stuff here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A609329
My personal space was getting crowded.

Btw, the link to your homepage doesn't seem to be working. smiley - sadface

I did the font called henry3d. Usenet postings get transmitted pretty erratically sometimes. Especially in an alt group. Hope it gets through eventually...if it never gets to deja then maybe it died on the way out of your server - could try a repost.

My homepage is dead since I left uni. In a couple of months I'll get it set up at my new uni. This also means that my asciiart page is down too, though you can probably find quite a bit of it in other people's collections, and the castle (on the ascii art entry) is probably the best known of mine. I could email you the ascii art webpage if you want a look at it.

I checked another usenet server, and the messages had got to that one. Still aren't at Deja though, so I'm starting to think that something's gone awry. I think I'll do some test postings to both servers and see if something happens at Deja. Or I could just post from Google, that seems to work.

I looked at Henry3D. Your trademark line style, I see. smiley - smiley To be honest though, I think the alphabetical characters are a bit distracting. smiley - erm

You ~could~ e-mail it to me (I'm in vk's ascii art chat right now, we can exchange addresses there). Or, you could put it all in your personal space. smiley - smiley

Well, I had to use JFL for my font didnt I? smiley - winkeye
Youre right, its a little difficult for things as small as letters, the serif things get in the way a bit. Font choice helps too - Courier isnt great for the JFL style, things like FixedSys are better IIRC.

...or I could wait until your post appears on deja and get your email from there.

Yeah, FixedSys rocks. I can't seem to get my browser to use it though.

It seems to be taking ages for my postings to get to Deja... I've done some test postings now from both usenet servers I have access to. In the mean time, have you checked out my The Adventures of Nerd Boy series? smiley - smiley

Yeah, TAoNB is an original way to do cartoony characters (Have you seen the Fuzzball series on alt.ascii-art?), though they do look a little weird smiley - smiley Maybe a bit of hair above the glasses would help? Theres a lot of choice about the body too, maybe try using [] ?
How about oo as usual size for glasses and save OO for surprise etc?

I think I like the Robowarrior sketches more (though episode 4 of NB hints at depths to come...), maybe because the original drawings werent supposed to be funny? Dunno. The eye style and jutting jaw reminds me of some of Larson's characters (just a line for eyes, good for nonchalant latent aggression). Probably.

Fuzzball, eh? I'll have to search Deja for that one... Hehehe, weird. smiley - smiley

You're right though, it takes a while to get used to the strange appearences of Nerd Boy. I tried adding hair, but it seemed to either just float above him or make him look much bigger. Good point about [] and oo though. Hmmm... I shall definitely have to give that some consideration.

You like Robowarrior more? smiley - erm There aren't even any real gags there. I dunno, we all have different tastes, I guess. smiley - smiley "Nonchalant latent aggression", I like that. That's him in a nutshell.

My posting from Google got through to Deja. Just a test, but you can get the e-mail address from it.

Stuff getting through to the newsgroup now smiley - smiley

I love the look of l33t guy, works amazingly well for such a small pic.

Thanks. smiley - smiley I've quickly become addicted to ASCII art, to the point of not being addicted to h2g2 anymore. I think I've moved on to the heavier stuff... smiley - erm

Why are you never at VK's a.a-a chat?

Post 14

I don't do that much ASCII these days, and the kind that I do doesn't really work in the time frame of chat. They tend to take an hour or more, with much fiddling about. Maybe when I get newsgroup access again I'll do some more.

Doesn't hurt to pop in now and again just to say hi. smiley - smiley Even without the ASCII, I mean, it's a chat.
