Rev Nick - dead man walking (mostly)

Winter was late arriving, but since it has - it has done so with a vengeance. A new local friend contracted to scrape the snow from the driveway, a large truck with a suitable huge blade. He pleaded for snow earlier, now asks for it to slow down. Today is another whack of large and heavy measures. I do a little shoveling, but when it gets large, I have an arrangement with the 16-year-old daughter of a neighbor. She is a helluva go-getter, and you know at that age in school, every coin is great.

As you might expect, my being home nearly 24/7 has thrown a crimp into the personal lives of the home managers. But we seem to have come to a mutally agreeable schedule. The big old boy knows when to pre-warm the sofa, and then tells me when it is time to join him for a nap. I have so little energy much of the time, a nap with a furry lad is really never a bad thing.

Yourself, if I recall, you had quite a menagerie to accompany quite of lot of caring needs as well. How is all of that balancing out for you?

We still have just the pair of felines, and they run the house pretty well despite my nearly 24/7 presence now. smiley - laugh

Surprisingly, I do find ways to keep myself occupied daily and not going stir-crazy. There is a convention in May that my bride and I were very deeply involved in - until I was unceremoniously booted from any involvement. The Queen Bee took great umbrage at a circumstance where I made it visible what a 2-faced person she is. Now, she refuses anything at all to do with me and any efforts I might contribute.

Yeah, I've been under the 'paw' of one cat or several for maybe 45 years now. I know I will never rule the roost. Such is life.

I just realized that, despite needs for closing out accounts and making new ones, I've hung around this sit for coming on 11 years soon. I don't know if this speaks to my attraction, or simple obstinacy. smiley - winkeye

I'm afraid that I don't share your opinion of the site, my experience has been nothing but rough and rocky after the first 6 or 8 months. Changes were a-foot that caused a lot of the earliest friends to depart, but I didn't go quietly. Lots of history under a number of management teams. And the present lot don't seem entirely inclined to let me wander freely either. So in the end, I see very little of interest and definitely none of the fun.

I know that it is not only my opinion that some of those who are meant to be "working on it" are themselves part of the problem.

I understand that the largest influx of new people occurred shortly after the BBC took it over - and made mentions of the site in various media. Perhaps if the embedded advertising is finally bringing in a little operating monies, a little advertising might again go a long way? Perhaps similar to the many little things that appear on so many other web-pages. Something lively and intriguing enough to attract the curious.

And if it did, for heaven's sake, be moderate with the moderation or you scare everyone off at first blush.
