Hi Gandalf. I am also a fan of TLOTR.Tolkien set all the benchmarks for Fantasy writers. I am also a lover of scotch, especially a smooth, oaky single malt, although the selection available here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, is not large. I also enjoy Canadian Whiskey. Have you a list of favorite scotches? Have you tried the best from Canada?

Hi oldpinkdog!!
Glad we are off the Peer review page!!
We would get our wrists severely slapped for continuing on that!!!!!!!
Whikeys,
As I said, my favs are Laphroig, Ardbeg and Highland Park
2 Islay malts, rather pungent and a bit of an aquired taste (I've aquired it!!!!!) and one from Orkney.
The islay ones have their own www sites, not sure of the Orkney.
The only Canadian hooch I have come across is Canadian Club.
Tried once, did not like it much!

Canadian Club is not one of the better whiskeys here, Crown Royal, Gibson's Finest, and Tangle Ridge, are all on the higher end of the spectrum. I do not know if you would like them though, if you prefer a pungent scotch. They may be a little sweet and have too much wood for you. I personally prefer a smooth, oaky single malt, with not too much peat, if I'm having it neat. A light blend like Chivas is also good on ice, like hockey...

I'll have to try Highland Park. We do have a pub here in ' toontown that has a wide variety of Scotches, but I can't really afford to sit down and try them all. Not to mention what it would do to my liver! Eventually I intend to do that very thing, just not at one sitting.
