Since when did kids taking birthday caked to school become a thing? http://www.theguardian.com/education/2016/jan/15/lancashire-school-bans-birthday-cakes
I'm with the school all the way on this one. Firstly, trying to slice up a cake into that many pieces, unless it's a bloody big one, and secondly because of the chance of being sued by some greedy toerag whose kid has a reaction to something in the cake and sees an opportunity to hire a lawyer. I hope they stick to their guns instead of crumbling in the face of a news story and the braying mob of social media, as is so often the case.

Yep.
That should have been something that didn't need banning as you don't throw birthday parties IN SCHOOL!

When did this idea of trying to fit as many notes as possible into one syllable begin? http://www.npr.org/2016/01/22/463929576/clinton-sharpens-her-criticisms-of-main-challenger-vermont-senator-bernie-sander (right at the beginning of the story).
I remember it happening a lot in American Idol when Mrs Gosho used to watch that, and the audience would go mental (possibly whipped up by a 'GO CRAZY' board held up by the floor manager?) when a singist did it.
I think I lay the blame at the feet of the Queen of Soul, Aretha.

Why do news organisations bother quoting so many banal, clichéd and pointless comments from the public, such as "It was crazy, it was like something out of a movie." http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leeds-35436802http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leeds-35436802
Mate, everyday life is like something out of a movie, cos that's what movies often depict.

The worst is when our local news reporters interview anyone at hand regarding some local tragedy. For example, I don't think they should interview murder or accident victims' family members immediately after the fact and feed on their tears, but what really makes me is when they interview a completely random neighbor, often one that literally didn't know anything about the victim or even that something had happened. There is absolutely no information that can be gleaned from some of these people they stick in front of the camera. Oh, and if they're illiterate and inarticulate they seem to get more airtime.

You know something, that's most of the reason Mrs Gosho and I used to like watching the early reality shows on TLC, like... was it called Life in the ER? It was pretty much crash victims and gunshot wounds, and a magnificent amount of white trash.
But no kids with saucepans stuck on the heads.
