There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Started conversation Feb 7, 2015
In the past ten days or so I've lost, found, lost again, found again, broken, glued, broken again almost every pair of glasses I own.
And now the frames on my shades have busted and one of the lenses dropped out Looks like I'll have to get the Gorilla Glue out... again.
And, curiously it's almost exactly a year to the date since I broke those other glasses, the ones with the $300 frames (the same make as those round ones that Billy Connolly wears) that someone left behind at the Drafthouse and never claimed, and which I really liked, and which were exactly the right strength for me, and which also fell apart again after gluing.
Is the universe trying to tell me something? Not that I believe in such matters.

Once my eyes uncross (if they uncross) I need to see about getting some prescription wrap arounds for riding.
I got a written prescription with my last exam thinking I would order some online and save some money. But the idea of buying glasses without trying them on seems ill advised.

If you have frames that you can measure, buying glasses online can work well. The glasses I'm wearing right now, I got on sale (free lenses! With coating!) for $25--including shipping. They fit well, and the lenses alone would've been over $70. Granted, I use them as back-ups for my contacts, but I do wear them all day once in a while--especially when we go camping. (My prescription's a -6, so it's not like vision correction is optional...)

Yeah, I could buy normal frames, but wrap around "goggles" need to fit a bit snugly in the wind and I have a rather huge and bulbous heed!
I have a hard time finding good ones that fit me but don't make me look like some .

Having dug through my box of glasses and glasses parts*, I've now discovered that some the ones which were too strong a couple of years ago are now just right, as my eyesight has worsened Which is quite handy because the glasses I use for most day-to-day tasks are feeling like they might fall to bits at any moment.
*Whenever they were due to clear out the lost property at the Drafthouse I'd grab a handful of likely-looking glasses and bring them home.
Oh, and the reason I know it's a year since I broke those expensive glasses is because they were busted on the night of the Great Fort Gosho Smoulder of 2014.

I could loan you a pair of my old pop-bottle bottoms.
They correct for a number of correctable thingies.
And with the advent of high index plastics, they aren't *THAT* thick and heavy.

Interesting. I've watched the first few minutes; I'll finish it a bit later, after Morning Edition.

Or during a boring political story on Morning Edition
That's a terrific idea. Where can I get me a pair? One thing - as my, I suspect, most people's, eyes get worse over time, a pair that can be adjusted would be a good idea. The cutting off of the tubes looked rather permanent. Not only does eyesight change, but we need different strengths for different tasks. I need one pair for what I'm doing right now - looking at a large PC monitor that's about three feet away; one pair for reading books and the laptop screen and for any close-up of fiddly task, including preparing food; and one pair for just walking around. If I could have presets for all three strengths it'd be very useful.

Sigh. I'm sure you can figure out what I meant despite all the typos and missing words, but just in case:

I was going to suggest (I even typed it up, but "clicked here to return to the conversation without saying anything") that rather than wait for the end of Morning Edition, since the video was only 5.5 minutes long you could just finish it the next time they talk about that jackass Alabama Supreme Court judge trying to negate federal rulings on same sex marriage.
The glasses demonstrated in that video are a rudimentary pair. I agree, cutting off the adjustment tube is rather final. There are other companies making different styles that remain adjustable.

The TruFocals are actually rather stylish, but I think they may have already gone bust as their website is vacated.

John Lennon Limited Edition $199, reduced to $99.50

Hmm, clearly us high-falutin', incredibly wealthy westerners don't need cheap ones And the less expensive ones aren't exactly something I'd want to walk out of the front door with.
I'm not surprised Trufocals have gone bust: "The Superfocus [formerly Trufocals] glasses start at a steep $680 and go up from there".

Yeah, the last line of the Gizmodo article says that you can purchase the TruFocals from the [now defunct] company website "for the eyebrow-raising price of US$898."
I must admit, I have spent nearly that much at the optometrist's before. But I got two sets, one with Prada frames and Transition™ lenses, both with Crizal Alizé glare reducing protective coatings and progressive bifocal lenses. Oh, and my insurance covered a big chunk of that for one of the pairs.
But still, I definitely wish I had some individually adjustable lenses right now. One of my biggest issues at the moment is my glasses. With my current diplopia, my bifocals aren't working so well. I'm carrying both my everyday (distant and midrange) and work (midrange and near) glasses everywhere I go. I can't very well with my everyday glasses and I can't walk around very well with my work glasses.
I wouldn't pay $900 for them, but I wouldn't blink an eye at $100 for a set of those TruFocals right now.
