One other thing - smileys aren't showing in conversations. All I get is a link that says 'smiley-whateverthesmileyhappenstobe.

In both cases, I can open the link properly while I'm viewing it in Pliny, but not in Ripley (brunel).

From Pliny it opens in Goo.

One other annoying thing about h2g2 in Ripley is that Firefox won't remember what was in the text box if I navigate away from and then back to the reply to a message page Any road up. Well that's odd. In Pliny that last post from me is unformatted and all but the first link just show as text, but it looks fine in Goo. What's more I'm being told that:

http://www.mozilla.org - doesn't show as a link in the post but works from here by highlighting it in pliny.

The off by one (but not consistent ) showing the wrong message when you reply has been noted several times and is on Pastey's list.

I've reported the incorrect handling of multiple links in pliny in the past, (ref post 33)

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. The link I posted in post 22 above (and my other posts following that) are exactly as they display. Now, clicking on those links in ripley inserts the extra /dna/h2g2 that borks the link. Clicking on them in Pliny takes you to the goo page indicated. This is a recent bug that has come up within the last few weeks. It has killed a couple of links on my personal space.

It looks like you're fighting much larger issues with your 'puter. But these pliny/ripley url problems you can ignore as the problem lies not with your set.

The link in that post, the most recent one, I copied from its properties in my bookmarks. The link on the previous page came from address bar. And I've just noticed that as it shows up in the text below, from your post which I'm replying to, the extra code has been added to the link itself if I hover the cursor over it.

One even more bizarre thing - it seems I can get to http://h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/classic/MP147203 in Goo after all, but only by going to my space h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/classic/U147203 and then using the Click here to see more Conversations link, but I still can't get to it from the address bar or from bookmarks

I can get this page without a problem http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p156 but not the Mozilla home page, or this one http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/

Those will be coming from different servers, I presume.

Well, if it's the PC that's causing it I'm going to have my work cut out. This is an OEM version of Windows, which means you're your own tech support. I can't wake Bill Gates up in the middle of the night asking him to fix it for me.

I'm curious though as to why it's only started doing it within the last two or three weeks (this OS was installed at least a year ago), and why it was fine for three or four days after the reinstall, and then started doing ti again.

You can ignore any subsequent posts or read them if you feel so inclined - I'm just noting stuff down for the record now.
