I took a cup of cocoa to bed with me last night, to drink while reading my book (a biography of Rudyard Kipling) and listening to the wireless (local classical music station playing Dvorak's Cello Concerto at the time).
And I slept like a log
I say I say I say. Do you like Kipling?
I don't know, I've never kippled! But he does make exceedingly good cakes.
I'll get me coat.

Tell us more! Did you fall asleep with the light and radio still on? Which version of the concerto was it? Did you spill any cocoa? Questions, questions....

I might do it again tonight... if I come back from the bar in a fit state to operate dangerous machinery like a cooker

Ah, why not. You've put the idea in my head, now.

Only two beers tonight. I think I am in command of my faculties and motor skills enough to heat milk without causing several thousand dollars-worth of damage to the apartment

My guilty pleasure is snuggling up in bed with a nice feel-good film on the laptop. Cocoa maybe, usually hot milk with honey (I understand some might feel at the thought of that). I discovered that my sister does exactly the same!
I'm reading David Copperfield at the moment. To my shame, I have read very little Dickens - I always found the ones I read to be rather 2-dimensional. But I'm enjoying this. As good as a film.
As to reading matter in general, apparently people are reading more non-fiction than fiction these days. I expect biographies feature high within the non-fiction. Can anyone else confirm that their reading has shifted in that way? Maybe I should ask the Book-readers in the appropriate thread.

I've always read a lot of non-fiction. I'm reading a lot of politics and economics at the moment because of my course, but I also read a lot of popular science books and I love a good biography / autobiography / memoir
but I never drink in bed in the evening unless it's water because I hate having to get up again to clean my teeth :D

I always use my Satan's oven, for warming the milk for coco/hot choc... (err microwave I mean, natch). Hmm. Its about the only thing I use the microwave for, cept storing bread in it, when its too big to fit in the bread-bin

I used to use mine as a "frozen things defrosting cupboard" as in I'd put things like frozen chicken in there to thaw without switching it on (it didn't work anyway) but only because if I didn't put it in there we'd find it with little catty teethmarks in it later...

Oh, I do that too sometimes... useually again, putting bread (frozen rolls) in it, to defrost Oh, I do use it to defrost 'actually turnign it on', things like portions of stew I've made, and froze etc... it def has its uses for someone like myself, who can't decide the night before, what they might want to eat the next evening... I'd never be organised enough to do things like get the stew our early enough to defrost totally ambiently

I started reading biographies a few years ago, picking them up from the local Half Price Books. Being in Texas, I can't always find biogs of people whose lives I really want to read about (Tommy Cooper, Eric Sykes, the Kenneth Williams Diaries, Tony Benn etc) because they're largely unknown here, but I managed to find Orwell, Pete and Dud, the Mitfords, Kipling, Ken Russell and Spike Milligan, to add to the biographies I already had of Brian Johnston, Richard Feynman (auto, both volumes), and my copy of Spycatcher which a friend brought back from America when you still couldn't buy it in the UK
I started browsing the British history shelves too. Not really bedtime reading though, those. They're more for when I go to the bar on my own and my poxy laptop won't connect to the wifi... again
