Brief summary of career and Collatz interest
I trained as an organic chemist (University of Illinois, Ph.D.1957).
I taught at UCLA 4 years.
I came to Kansas State University in 1961, taught in Chemistry through 1971, then jumped ship to computing, and eventually to academic support in the then Computing Center.
Retired in 1998.
Have been working on Collatz well over 15 years, and very slowly have come to a proof. I just posted a teaser, hoping that it will bring helpful comments and suggestions. In addition to the draft paper mentioned in my teaser I have a huge web site at
www-personal.ksu.edu/~kconrow
which contains a wide mix of thoughts scattered through those 15 or more years. Only the draft paper can be considered as my current thoughts.
My paper would be more palatable to mathematicians if I knew more about mathematical symbols and proof techniques.
Comments through the conversation on the Thwaites/Collayz conjecture coversation would be welcomed.
