Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ...

My name is Feisor and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply smiley - laugh.

Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something you can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that. smiley - smiley

I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll open your personal space and tell us a little about yourself - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory smiley - smiley

BTW - the message you have left entitled "Help-kneebitter.com" has been posted to your own space - that's like writing a letter to the world and leaving it on the notice board in your room - no one will see it unless they visit smiley - biggrin Follow the New Researchers link below to get a good idea of how this place works smiley - ok

Why not repost your question at <./>AskH2G2</.> where you will reach a good cross section of the community - remember to indicate your question in the subject box smiley - smiley

We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).

I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place. It should keep you busy for a while smiley - biggrin

For a quick reference I recommend that you also read and bookmark this great page from Alex Tufty Ashman – click here ----> A28749630smiley - spacesmiley - ok

Oh, and don’t forget to bookmark not only your space but the H2G2 <./>FrontPage</.> - it’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening and leads to all sorts of corners which you may otherwise miss.

Do some exploring and you'll find that the site has everything from the nonsense japing to debates on any number of diverse subjects. Many lasting friendships and relationships have been born on hootoo. It's kind of an online pub and encyclopaedia.

I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do smiley - biggrin There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know smiley - laugh

smiley - cheers

Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all smiley - dontpanic!!!

Hello Feisor

Thank you vey much for your fast and warm introduction to this site !
In fact, aside from this actual need, I was looking to become member of a distinguished
and fascinating comunity in order to be better informed in any respects.
Your additional remarks confirmed my guessing that in fact I have found such a
comunity.

I have followed your advise and reposted my question on AskH2G2 and hope to
have formulated the question in an apropriate way. May I ask you to check this-
and in case of mistakes please let me know how I should make it better.

Thank you again and wish you a wonderfull week.

Yes, I think that you have made your need clear in the question you posted smiley - ok

Just be patient waiting for a reply - this site is accessed by people in time zones everywhere. If you feel that you have waited long enough you can bump it up in the conversation list by posting again to the thread (even if it's replying to your own post) It's a trick used by some who have been here a while. You might also like to mention that you are new and are looking for "somewhere to belong" (to get sympathy smiley - laugh)

I hope that you will find that this site meets your needs - we like it and it certainly is "distinguished and fascinating" if a little mad at times smiley - laugh

As it says above, you're welcome smiley - biggrin

Don't forget to open your space - even just "hi" will do - you can always change it and add to it later, It's a great way for people to find out a little about who they are speaking to, and you can find out a little about them by just clicking on the name at the top of their message smiley - biggrin

If you have any questions about hootoo (as we call h2g2) or need any help just drop me a line here and I'll get back to you asap smiley - ok

Have fun

smiley - cheers

smiley - sorry

I have just realised that you have posted your message to the wrong place (I don't know where you found that page - it must have been hiding in some well hidden corner of the site smiley - laugh)

Follow the instructions below and repost your question.

Click on this link ----> <./>AskH2G2</.>

at the bottom of the page under "CONVERSATION TOPICS FOR THIS ENTRY:" there is a "Start a new conversation" link - click on it and repost your question making sure to indicate your query in the subject box.

Let me know how you go ....

Sorry, on the link you gave me AskH2G2 :

a.) I cant see the entry "CONVERSATION TOPICS FOR THIS ENTRY "

b.) I cant see a "Start a new conversation" link.

the last 2 line on my screen says :
Click here to be notified of new Conversations about this Guide Entry
Click here to stop being notified of new Conversations for this Guide Entry

What do I do wrong ?

Thanks

On the <./>AskH2G2</.> did you scroll down the page?

The "Start A New Conversation" link is below the introduction.

Well done on opening your space smiley - applause

There's a great page to help you "tart" it up a little if you like.

Go to "Spicing Up Your User Page" at A690518 for lots of help.

There are also lots of hints on the New Researchers link I left you - go to A719840 - it's very gentle I promise smiley - biggrin

Hi Feisor

Thank you very much for your ample information you wrote me.
I see I have a lot of " to dos" to go through.

But still I am fighting with finding the link on AskH2G2: "Start A New Conversation"

My Laptop strictly seems to refuse it to show it to me ??....!!

I'll have another try tomorow with fresh energy !

Bel has started a thread there for you smiley - biggrin

CLick on this link
F18668232?thread=7738937

Then post to the conversation and it will appear on your conversation list so you can see if anyone replies.

The Start a New Conversation link is definitely there for me - are you sure that you are signed in?

Hurrah - Finally I saw the start a conversation link !!

I guess it didn't show up because now I have a display setting with green and black
background (and I see it) ; before I had just a white background on the display (and could NOT see it).Could this be the reason for not appearing ?

Ah, yes, pages are different in the different skins ("display setting green and black").

The green and black setting is called Brunel (you'll see the word in the URL towards the end) and the link is indeed called 'Start a new conversation'.

The simple white background would have been either Alabaster (again, this word will be in the URL) (if the post headings were in a pastel bluey greeny ish colour) in which case the link/button is called "Discuss this entry".

Or it could have been the unofficial plain skin (again in the url) if it was just a basic text page without highlighting - although again the button would be 'Discuss this entry'.

Don't worry, we're getting a site revamp soon-ish and it'll all change, hopefully to be less confusing!

Don't worry too much about the above but Brunel (green/black/purple/other) is the latest skin we've had so some things are rather different in it to others.

You can change which skin you use in your preferences options. Some people can get quite passionate about which is best smiley - smiley The answer to that of course is 'Brunel' smiley - winkeye

Hello Ictoan SHADOW Secretary AWE-WAWi

Thanks for the detailed explanation of the various "skins" .
I will work on that too in order to know the site better.

I'm really pleased that your problems have been solved and the links are showing up - but mostly that your circle of acquaintances on hootoo seems to be expanding so well smiley - biggrin
