PLT! (Peace,Love,Tranquility - those are my "best wishes")
We've just been cruisin' the forums here, and we're vastly addicted already.
(first time, too; never done that 'chat room' thang: antithetical ) .
Douglas Adams nuts for years, thought I might've found something worthwhile on the 'net (we're virgins with a 5-year old hand-me-down-Mac) I was right!
"But wait,there's more!"
Yikes! I have to go to work sometimes, you know! I could hang out here all day... Wow!
Gotta lotta learn; but havin' fun; that's first...
Patience, please.
Help, if you can; we're very social, yet low-tech,as yet...
(You're always nervous the first few times...)
We both Love to write and always have; yet y'know: songs, newspaper articles, poetry, magazine articles and correspondance have been separate entities. I'm sure different "flavours" should be submitted to different areas, no? I've just been wingin' wherever my couch landed...
Great!! Page. When we can afford....Ha! Just kiddin'!
I wouldn't be making good use of it yet, anyway.
Who's Harold Pintner?
PLT, Mick.

PLT eh? Gotta remember that one.
Ok, this is basically how the guide works: the guide is supposed to be two things.
1. An online community where people can hang out, trade ideas, laugh a lot and relax. There are churches (like the Church of the True Brownie and the Church of Weekendism) coffee houses (like the astral café) and forums (like...well, everything else). These pages are posted hassle-free--you write it and hit the 'post' button. Easy.
2. A guide for the real world. If you go to a bar and really like it, write a review and post it. It doesn't matter how out of the way the place is--chances are someone'll get there eventually and would like to know that the seafood's miserable but the atmosphere makes up for it. These entries are submitted the same way any other entry is--you post it, it becomes a page and if you think it should be in the edited guide you post it to the peer review forum. People comment on it and, if it's recommended, it gets edited and included. Equally easy.
there aren't specific areas for specific topics--it all goes into one of the two above clumps. My guess is there are more of the first category than the second.
If your interest is in writing songs and fiction there are forums you can go talk in. The above-mentioned astral café has a poetry corner, and there's an h2g2 fiction society. I don't have the links handy unfortunately...damnit.
I THINK that answers some of your questions...if I'm being vague (as I am when the sun's up) feel free to ask questions. I won't be offended.
Oh, and Harold Pinter is a modern Brittish playwright who's literary style was so inventive he had a genre named after him (and he's still alive--how 'bout that?) "Pinteresque." His plays embody confusion, violence and real-world (if slightly confusing) dialogue. You tend to write like him...sorta. It's hard to explain.
Take care.
Triv, Parton Saint of...oh, nevermind.
