immortal.

Through centuries I walked
the unknown paths, where I have met not just men
of ill worth, rather bereaved souls awaiting their redemption.
Where have I done wrong, for thy weakness embodies everything
that represents doom around us.

Take me away for a while
for there are places to go, things to see, and people
to meet. There are no doors here, only passages which spell delight
to thirsty
adventurer, but only hollow expectations for the old.

I am old. No, not weak but
rather a weary soul. Yes, weariness represents a
form of weakness, but in my profession the weak have no place.
Tired of all this business of setting things right, for when I
turn my back I
see not a speck of gratitude, but fathoms of despair because I
changed the way
these people lived their lives.

To do what I feel right,
and to carry out that act successfully, has not only
been the guiding strength but the only thing that has got me going
for these
unruly folk.

Where I have been, you have
not seen.
Where I am now, you are with me.
Where I will go, you should follow.

A scar falls right below
my chin, not entirely visible to another, but only
visible on close scrutiny. I carry it as a memory of the past,
to which I
won't go back.

I have seen much which is
not what I want to speak about. I wish to caution
you of a certain death, which we all shall come upon one day.
Its like finding a gem, of no real worth but it is infact a jewel
in itself
because it gives its owner complete redemption. Of what, you may
ask. But it
is only of your doing that you wish to redeem yourself of. This
world, that
you call home, you wish to leave. You came upon this gem, which
granted you
your wish that should not have been given so soon.

Gems have a special quality,
which sets them apart from other stones. Why
they are cherished still leaves me with a feeling of lack of understanding
of the human kind. Indeed they are beautiful to look upon, once
they have
been cut and emblazoned to perfection. Again mans' vision of perfection
makes him the master of his pleasure and pain.

Look upon death as a gem
of alien perfection, just like how the alien will
look at your diamonds and pearls. Granted you do not wish to enjoy
the
delight which it provides, you have no say in such matters because
you are
far behind this alien in everything you consider progress and
technology.

No, this alien does not
traverse the lengths and breadths of the known and
unknown universe. Rather it is a comely being, who would sit at
home and
shave potatoes than hitch hike across the galaxies.

"But my stone does
not bring upon death to its owner," you might say,

"It figures,"
I will say.

Your gems merely reflects
and refracts electromagnetic beams from your nearest
star.

Where there is no light,
there are no gems.
Where there are no gems, death ceases to exist.
Where there is no death, light prevails.

If you live in the light,
you will never face death.

"But what about the
gem?", you ask.

"Drop it.", I
say.

It fell like any other stone.
The clouds overhead, break apart bringing on
the fury of the sun. Everything around seems to come alive again,
like it was
before.

"Before what?",
you query.

I walk away, for questions
lie unanswered. I have others to see. Places to be.
More gems to collect.
