You're quite welcome ...and you may well be right, the new route could be a fresh start(possibly taking you into previously unexplored territory, so to speak...just my ). But perhaps further consideration of the subject is necessary.

But how about transfering my new identity to my old number. Sometimes it's better to hang on to history and find a place to be suitably anchored in time.

Unfortunately I don't know if it's possible, but I think they're at h2g2support at bbc dot co dot uk.
I have a feeling that as you came back after the new sign on system was implemented, the account may be permanently locked. It's always worth double checking, but I think they're down to one man this week.

Having read thread http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/F615?thread=7115939 it can't be done. There's nothing on the old page that needs desperately updating or fixing since I left it in a sort-of dormant state. Never mind. to pastures new.
