Here is the Welcome Message from DNA, the founder of the site: A157349
h2g2 is all about writing entries for the edited guide, and I'm fairly sure there'll be a topic YOU could write about, so why not give it a try?
Go here for more info: A53209
In case that's not your cup of tea, there's still the <./>writing-alternative</.> for creative writing, as well as <./>ThePost</.>.

Things you should know before you start :
This is an open forum, so everything you post can be read by everybody else, and you cannot delete it, nor can you correct it once it is sent. This is where the 'preview' button below your answering box comes in handy.smiley - winkeye
The only thing you can edit or delete, is any guide entry you create, which includes the introduction on your Personal Space. smiley - ok
If you want to 'spice it up', you'll need to use guide ml. I have found this A1123354 to be very helpful, but there is also the Guide ML Clinic: A187229

Before you start: why not read the Guide to Netiquette on h2g2 at A901838 before you put your foot in? You're much less likely to accidentally upset somebody if you're familiar with the site's Netiquette. To give you an impression of how you may feel if you posted before thinking, take a look here: A11284193
If you reply to this message and tell me a bit about your interests, I can most certainly point you directly to the best places to go. smiley - smiley

Hi Bel - thanks so much for the Ace welcome - there really is a lot of exciting prospects ahead - just one small query - is there a spell-check facility?

Wrest a Spell
Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea

Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write

I see that you are aware of the flaws of spell checkers (they#re described here, btw: A52491512)

There is no spell checker here, but if your browser is Mozilla Firefox or Opera, then you can either get one as an add-on (Mozilla) or inbuilt (Opera). I seem ti recall Google Chrome offers it, too. Only Internet Exploder doesn't offer one.

I see that you are a writer, so I hope you'll pop over to our Alternative Writing Workshop at <./>RF5</.>

Maybe you'd like to share your experiences from your job as pieces for the Edited Guide? You could either start out in the Edited Guide Writing Workshop <./>RF2</.> or directly in <./>Peerreview</.>

Whatever you decide, it's great to have you here. Welcome once again.

Yes, it was deliberate - although I've been known to make the most hair raising mistakes. smiley - winkeye

You've made a very good start by writing an introduction and by replying to my welcome message, you'll feel at home here in practically no time if you stick around. smiley - ok
