A bit about me - Doreen
I first came across h2g2 as a student listening to the original radio broadcast. In common with the rest of this community, the concept inspired and fascinated me but I didn't even get on-line until the end of 1999 and was just thrilled to find that the Guide was well on its way to becoming a reality.
Originally from Essex, I now live in South Yorkshire and love it - although I get a little tired of the Essex girl jokes.
I have a cat called Suki 
inherited from some neighbours who abandoned her when they moved. In the summer, students from the local TESOL centre stay with me and one of the Japanese visitors told me that Suki means 'beloved'. At the moment, however, we are only just talking owing to the moult-induced vomit all over the house and the consequent grooming and vacuuming (yes, of the cat).
I work for a charity, recruiting and training volunteers to support people with a criminal record and run a small education project at the local Bail Hostel. I'd love to hear from anyone out there who has an interest in sharing information and good practice in the field.
