Way back in the mists of time, at the very first Manchester meet-up, I had the mick taken out of me - very gently - for the mobile phone I was using then. It was an old Nokia brick.
Technology finally caught up with me and I progressed through the ranks of the mobile, until today when I took delivery of my new phone, it's another Nokia with free GPS etc, guess what??
It's almost as big as The Brick
Back to using a rucksack as a handbag

ask me tomorrow when I've figured out how to turn it on
I think it can, but I'll have to wait for Grandad to get home so that I can Bluetooth him all the sounds and stuff I've got saved on my old memory card as the new phone doesn't seem to have a memory card. I can't be without my Tardis message tone

I just bought a new mobile. I haven't had one since I came to Texas 10 years ago but the company insisted I get one so that they don't have to search the building for me whenever brewery and distributor reps call the office. Now those people can get me direct.
It's definitely not a brick though. I bought one that's decidedly low-fi. I really don't need to get the interwebs on a phone - that's what I've got a laptop for, and there's a company which has just brought citywide wifi to Austin who I might switch to as my ISP. I don't need text for the same reason.
But this phone still does so much more than the last handheld mobile phone I had - more numbers in the memory, a camera, text (see above), and probably other things I haven't even figured out yet.
And my previous phone (a Nortel) was streets ahead of my first mobile which was a car phone that you could only use in the vehicle (therefore a van phone in my case). It had a handset and a huge transceiver that had to go under the passenger seat I think it had enough memory for all of 30 phone numbers

Granny, the new phone probably does take memory cards. They will store more but be physically smaller so easier to lose and harder to spot when you do

Well I am going for some new glasses tomorrow, but, I haven't found a slot for a memory card as yet. I've got it working though, still on the same number for all those who've got it

Nope, checked under there, and under the battery itself. I think I'll have to give up and read the manual

Reminds me of a joke: Verizon has this spokesman testing phones going to odd locations and saying "Can you hear me now?"
One day he stuck his head in a leprechauns window and gave his standard line and the leprechaun picked up his shahlelia knocked the phone out of his hand and smashed it. time to get a new phone.
Now they are having ads for 4 G networks whatever that means.

I looked it up on line, it doesn't have a memory card, just 8Gb of phone memory that's more than my first computer!
