And now, brought to you at enormous expense, your own, your very, very own...
Miss Ruth E Daughters!!!
(the audience goes mild)
(A tiny face peers from behind the curtain. As quickly as it has appeared, it disappears. Suddenly, a pair of hands forcibly shoves the girl out from between the curtains and into the bright spotlight of center stage. Startled, she hesitates only a moment before dashing back toward the promised security of heavy red velvet. This time, she is unable to hide herself within the comforting folds of fabric before several sets of hands, after a few moments of "discussion," dissuade her. Egged on by harsh whispers and stern pointing fingers, she once again finds her way to the center of the stage.)
Mmm... Well... Right, then. This is me. Hullo!
(sound of crickets chirping)
Gee, you guys are a tough audience!
(She walks to the end of the stage and sits, legs dangling over the edge.)
Okay then. I was born of my mother after four hours of labor. (I didn't make her miss a single meal, which is why she always liked me the best!) I have lived in Northern California almost all of my life, except for a summer as an exchange student to Japan and a few months each year for three years in a row, working as the costumer for the Renaissance Pleasure Faire.
my big passion is dance, most especially lindy hop and other dances of the 20's through 30's (including charleston, balboa, collegiate shag). I am a member of a swing dance troupe called the San Francisco Jitterbugs, and have somehow managed to dance everywhere from local tv to a television pilot to onstage for the California music awards (pretty neato, huh? :-)). I also adore Victorian Ballroom dances, and am anxious to learn more latin dances.
I also perform (sing and act) at the Renaissance Pleasure Faires in Northern and Southern California. I'm also in a theatrical singing group known at the "Soiled Doves"... we play a group of singing Victorian whor... prost... a-hem... *ladies.* Matter of fact, just about anywhere I can call attention to myself by performing sounds like fun to me! Okay, maybe not *anywhere*...
I just adore languages. I've studied Spanish for quite some time, and would one day love to immerse myself in a Spanish speaking county in order to become fluent. Right now, I'm attempting to teach myself French. I've also a smattering of Japanese and Italian to my credit. My love of languages also includes English... I'm one of those weirdoes who would love to take a black marker to the grocery store and straight to the express lane with the specific intent of crossing out the word "less" and writing in "fewer." I hate that over 50% of Americans say "lay" when they mean "lie," or say such things as "where at." <shudder> I love fun words like "lethologica" and "irk," and I've been known to even attempt poetry in moments of inspiration or angst.
I like to dress up in costume. I have a streak of silly a mile wide. I am fascinated my ghosties and am charmed by graveyards. I love all animals, but am particularly fond of cats. I've never been drunk (yet!), nor tried any illicit drug. I like to climb trees and occasionally run through sprinklers, just for the heck of it. My dream house is a two story Victorian with an attic and secret passageways. I like cheese (so much so, in fact, that my cats are named Gorg and Zola).
That about sums it up, I suppose.
Oh, I guess I'll end this missive with a little something that I once read which made a huge impression on me...
"Always remember, happiness is a way of travel, not a destination."
