Hello Everybody
Thought I had better introduce myself. So here goes... My nickname is "Bingalau" I'm 79 years old and recently widowed, my wife having died of bile duct cancer. I guess I am still pretty well traumatised by what has happened after being married for 57 years, also after being good friends with my wife for 70 years since we met just prior to WW2. It's worse than having an arm and a leg off believe me.
My family consists of two sons and a daughter; eight grand-children and eight great grand-children, so far.
I have a few hobbies of course and friends and relatives keep me going. Number one hobby is probably the computer where I mess around with Photoshop a lot, and talk to friends overseas in places such as Australia and N.Z. As well as in the U.K. of course.
I served for 23 years in the Royal Marines (40 Cdo; 42 Cdo; HQ 3 Cdo Brigade; HMS Ceylon and also for six years in a very special branch) in a variety of different rolls, Eventually I ended up in the Printing Branch working for Admirals and Major Generals etc. On discharge from the Corps I managed a public house in Liverpool for twelve years. This was followed by my wife and I buying a couple of small shops which kept us for a number of years until I retired at the age of about 63.
Also a member of the Deutscher Marine Bunde (German Naval Association) I can speak enough German to get by on and visit ex-German naval friends in Duisburg quite regularly. Sometimes they come here and visit me.
Recently I purchased a small Fiat Ducato Trigano 2 berth Motorhome, and have had a few days/nights out and about in it. But not quite a seasoned camper yet. Besides it's luxury camping really after the really wild camping whilst serving in the forces. It is going to come in very handy at re-unions when accommodation is in short supply. Also of course will save a small fortune on hotel bills.
I live in Formby on Merseyside and am a member of the RN Association and also of course the Royal Marines Association. Once again with an abundance of friends who have been a blessing over the last year or so. I support Everton Football Club and am looking forward to tomorrow's game against Manchester United.
That's about me in a nutshell...... ..Bingalau..
