Singer/Songwriter
Newfoundland Island is where I was born, but I have made a home out of Ottawa, Canada. I write songs, and spend time at the University of Ottawa where sometime soon I will graduate with a degree - at which time I will have to figure out what else I want to do with my life. I imagine I will have grown up by the time I'm 60 for sure, but I'm not sure that it will be any better an idea then than it would have been a decade or so ago when (presumably) it happened to everybody else my age. You can hear a few of my songs at my myspace page at www.myspace.com/rickhayes
I wrote about the Wild Baloney because I feel that tales like that are "larger than fiction" when part of a culturally diverse place like Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the kind of story that has been told all over the island, and is covered by many different versions, largely because of how things change through the passing on by word of mouth.
I am a huge fan of Douglas Adams, and I aspired as a kid to be able to write like him. The very idea that I could contribute to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is just too cool for words...
