Hi John,
I'm not sure if you've found Peer Review yet. That is where articles written for h2g2's Edited Guide get commented on before being published. Icy has put up an entry on Grey Owl and I am asking some of the Canadian researchers to have a look and comment if they want to, and wondered if you would be interested.

I am familiar a little with the story of Gray Owl. He is of mixed reputation among those of my circle who know too of h8im. My opinion is that as First Nations people it was a compliment to us and a benefit for us in many ways. It is a matter of pride for many that he surrendered his own place to adopt that of another. I also know people that have low opinion of him for being false. I think maybe he was true to his spirit. I have mixed feelings about the man but my m8ind is also torn. All together he was a good thing for us all, white and native.

That makes a lot of sense John. It was surprising for me to see him described in that entry as a fraud, as I hadn't thought of him in that way. But I didn't know much about his life in the UK so I can understand that side too I guess, if he left people or hurt them.
I was recently reading a story of some of the first white women here in New Zealand, and how much they loved it here in the bush before it was changed too much. I think that need to live closer to the land is in many people but few have the opportunity or courage to make it happen.

This is out of stream but I have heard much the same thinking from people to get close to the land. I was taken by my son to Toronto once some years ago to see Maori dancers and was much thrilled by them. The warriors were spectacular and intimidated myself though it was on stage. They must have been very feircesome in the days before colonies. The dances of the women were a thing of beauty to me also.
