Thank you lil! I bow to your Guruness(is that a word?), whatever I'm back! It was quite a simple process-once I read your email, so yes it seems to have been sorted out. And yes it is good to be back!

I think they still shudder behind the scenes when I press the buttons </>
Anyway! What have you been upto during your hiatus?
?

What have I been up to? Well, ery among other things http://www.edmontonbeergeeksanonymous.ca . Personally I think it should've been 'unanimous' rather than 'anonymous' but of course I wasn't consulted. I mean 'Beer Geeks Unanimous' or 'united in the quest for better beer'. Have had a few very good English s I might add. Really quite enjoyed the ale from Masham in Yorkshire & of course the Wychwood Hobgoblin(very nice). But looking at time here, must grocery shopping...this blasted eating business, eh. Get back to you later love.
Big s & es

Rather than go on&on&on about English s, such as the Young's Double Stout(just Had to mention one), I was hospitalized. Of course longer than I was initially prepared to be. Rather nasty knock on the noggin, actually drew a bit of blood. I had assumed overnight for observation, but No they kept me four & one half days! Quite good/decent food really, & I did get a visit from a nice Brit Occupational Therapist(who I think sensed my frustration). In any case it was certainly good to be back home & resume the essentially 'daily routine'(preparing my own meals, in My Own kitchen, etc)..

Oh, simply sat down a bit too far back in a chair(kitchen chair)-if you get my meaning & it went/tipped over, causing me to hit my head on a corner of the wall. I was icing the bump & I noticed a bit of blood, so I thought best get it looked at. But hopefully no real damage done...other than a little impression in the wall.

But, getting back to the Hobgoblin, some of my online reading includes blogs from there in The U.K. such as http://ghostdrinker.blogspot.ca/search?q=Hobgoblin (I suppose the 'dot ca' because it's being accessed from said 'ca'), http://hopzine.com , http://goodfoodgoodbeer.wordpress.com , http://eatingisntcheating.blogspot.ca & of course Pete Brown's http://petebrown.blogspot.ca . Not to mention occasional looking into others. I take my beer geekery seriously.
And what about you, how've you been love?

Poor love
Dad had a nasty fall a few months back and ended up in hospital for a week with concussion! They did all sorts of test on his heart, head and other areas likely to cause dizziness and he is being treated for an inner ear infection.
Personally, things have been rather busy in RL. Hubby's dad died and left him as the executor of the estate. What a palarver that is!
No hubby wants to move into his dad's bungalow, so I've been busy painting this place
Now we have a viewing on Saturday afternoon and another on Thing morning!
All I want to do is sleep!
*snuggles up into the big overstuffed chair*

Concussion, that is nasty! Certainly hope the inner ear infection was the problem and he's doing well.
So sorry for your hubby's loss, losing a parent ...can't be easy. I still have both mihe, thank goodness. However I realise the time will come....well, cross that bridge when we encounter it I suppose.
I imagine you/ve had that Saturday afternoon viewing. Hope all went well.

Treasure your parents, sweetheart , I'm still missing my mum after 7 years.
Well, the Saturday viewing turned into viewings! Another two couples arrived within an hour of the first ones. At least one couple are expected to make some sort of offer today and the others will give some feedback. It's all experience in the end, isn't it?
We have another couple on Weds - but that is doubtful as they were gazzumped recently and this house is a lot smaller than the one they had set their heart on. And a couple will be viewing on Thursday morning... Lord the house hasn't been so dust-free in years!

Another wonderful English -imho, if you like the dark s. Orkney Brewing's 'Dark Island'(4.6%abv)). As the label says 'A robust yet exceptionally smooth dark beer with a full-bodied malt character.' Lovely...just wish I had purchased a few more!Live and learn, eh?
Hello my Jazzman!
j_z_d Posted Jul 15, 2012
Hmm, label-upon further examination-says 'Scottish Ale'-although I suppose it did posses s the toffeeish/malt characteristics of a Scottiish . I thought of it more as a darker English Brown really...but that's just me, an ignorant boy from 'the colonies'.

Hi Jazzed
Sorry I haven't been around very much recently. The good news is that our house is now 'sold, subject to contract'... It was only on the market for 15 days!
There maybe some stumbling blocks in the next couple of weeks, but it's good to be on a 'high' for a short while
As for ales - I actually like Flowers bitter. Hubby will sometimes bring me some cans home, which is a bit of a face-saver when he doesn't fancy walking home with a bunch of flowers

Well that Is good news that the house is sold, & after only fifteen days on the market! Hopefully any stumbling blocks will be minor ones.
I recently tried three Norwegian ...well, Norwegian but from a brewery I hadn't sampkled. I had heard plenty about Nogne O(with that diagonal slash through the 'O'). It seems they're now more widely available in the area. I had, some time ago sampled a few impressive s from another Norwegian brewery, HaandBryggeriet in Drammen Norway(as opposed to Nogne O's location in Grimstead)...translates essentially to 'hand brewery'. I have to say I was consistently impressed by the HaandBryggeriet s, especially the first one I tried, a smoked farmhouse that shares a name with...or is it named after The Beatles song Norwegian Wood.
Malty-bit of a chocolate note, maybe some caramel-with a distinct yet reasonably subtle smokiness, a bit of a resiny/herbal character from the Juniper. And as I recall, a rather bready finish-a bit of that 'campfire' smokiness lingering for awhile.
Actually I find myself craving an English-hybrid(I suppose you'd call it)brewed here in eastern Canada. The brewery is Hockley Valley Brewing in Orangeville Ontario. I'm quite fond of their Dark.

...may pop into the pub later.
Hello my Jazzman!
j_z_d Posted Jul 23, 2012
I wavered at the last moment & went with another local favourite, this one much more local(so likely to be fresher). The last can of the Hockley Dark I had was a bit 'off'. The Mt. Begbie Tall Timber Brown http://www.mt-begbie.com/timber.htm ...oh, nice bit of 'background info' I found http://www.theworldofgord.com/2011/03/beer-of-week-mt-begbie-tall-timber-ale.html .
