no job scrounging off the state and telling all who can hear, how bad the west is and how graet islam is.

ANY government that collects tax from their subjects uses it for their own administration.
Zakat is NOT charity .. it's compulsory tax on every Muslim inhabitant of a nation/the universe.
It's similar to the Social Welfare system of the west ..
Any Muslim who wants to give charity can give to any individual/organisation that they wish!>>
does this mean you receive aditional payment on top of your benefits????
do you declare this aditional zakat to your benefits office???
