What's the point?

~*~God there is no god but He, the Living, the Everlasting. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Who can intercede with Him without His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him, and He is the Most High and Mighty of all.~*~
Well that's all fine and dandy for him. I fail to see how it applies to *me* in any particular way, but....

What's the point?
That's a good point ... why are we alive and got intelligence? Many people conjecture that life's all without any 'higher purpose', and live their life according to their own 'set of values' which has evolved from their ancestors and environment.
It is an individual's choice whether to believe in God and a higher purpose ... ultimately, everybody's responsible for their own soul.

'why are we alive and got intelligence?'
An ironic bit of bad grammar, that.

I was not asking, "what's the point of existence?" I was asking--rather unclearly, I admit--why you feel it necessary to praise this "God" fellow so much. Certainly all his vaunted powers are exciting for him to have, but he's not going out of his way to get involved in our lives, so why do we care?

Why does anybody love or praise anybody/anything?

I don't know, that's why I'm asking the question. Being one of those fellows who loves and praises a lot, I thought maybe you could tell me.

Some people love their wife/husband more than anybody else, some people love themselves, and some people love God/their creator.
We're born with many different emotions, and love of our mothers and what we may perceive as our creator is quite natural. Some of us continue with it (the love of God) as we mature and become adults ...

and if god becomes a problem between a husband and wife,
do you give up god to save your marriage
or
give up on your marriage for god

Love. Love, inherently and by definition, requires trust. My hypothetical wife has certainly gone to a lot of trouble to earn my trust or I never would have married her in the first place. My mom has my trust simply because she raised me from infancy and never once threw me off a building in mad frustration. What, then, has the invisible superbeing whom I've never met or spoken to done to earn my trust?

There is good and there is evil ... some people are 'amused' by evil and join/are part of groups with evil names, and find other people's misfortunes amusing and are looking for 'a good time'.
Other people believe that the world's order and beauty show us that 'good' is eventually predominant and we should belong to a community believing in 'law and order' and consideration and respect for others which God (if you believe in a Creator), has taught us is right through 1000's of messengers he has sent to us over time.
If you want to ask why God does not 'show Himself' or talk to us, I'm sure that you'd realise that our lives would not be as they are
ie. we would not be independent beings and there would be no test of our characters
Furthermore, what purpose would it serve, other than apparently convincing people that there's some sort of being that's more intelligent/powerful than ourselves.
Many of us have already deduced that, and are 100% sure of it ...

If you can't trust God, who can you trust??

Mr. X ---> "Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!" Posted Jul 17, 2009
Someone who's earned it. I trust my dog, for example. So, tell me, what has God ever done to earn my trust?

I notice you're ignoring me. Please, allow me to restate my question in the most courteous way possible: what has God ever done to earn my trust?

Mr X,
"You trust your dog".
Fine, but who created your dog and gave it its nature as loyal and subservient to its master?

A. I don't know who or what created her or me. I am content with the fact that I don't know everything about the universe, and so I have no need to conjure up some imaginary superbeing (who I know nothing about) in order to explain away those aspects of the universe that I don't presently understand.
B. She is not, by any stretch of the imagination, loyal and subservient to her "master." That's because I've deliberately encouraged her to think for herself. This causes me some problems now and then, but, in the words of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, "I prefer spending time with a defiant equal more than an obsequious slave."
So, to get back to that question you seem to be avoiding, what has God ever done to earn my trust?

Mr X,
>>so I have no need to conjure up some imaginary superbeing<<
Nor do I! I'm not a magician, and haven't conjured up anything ... belief in God (the one that created us), is natural, as most people acknowledge that it's very unlikely that mankind created themselves or we're here by 'accident'.
So it's a case of belief and study of what knowledge mankind has now and in the past of our creation and purpose.
Some people are 'happy' with the belief(s) that they are born with, and others adopt beliefs as they go through life for various reasons, and there again others that would rather have no belief stating that 'there is no proof of any gods', meaning they are not constrained by any doctrine and can follow their desires as they wish (perhaps to their eventual peril) !?
Peace
