Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Started conversation Dec 15, 2000
Dear all,
I am trying to come up with a few idears to make the Musician's Guild a much more interesting place.
The first is to try and get hold of "real" musicians and invite them to answer 20 questions put forward by Guild members. This could be ANY musician, as long as they earn their crust through their own performances.
The second was not to limit the guild to cyberspace. If anyone performs on a regular basis, they could post a list of places and dates that other members could go to watch and listen.
Lastly that could open up the possibilities of reviewing such events - or anything musical that you enjoy, a CD, an instrument, a band.
Let me know what you think - this could be BIIIIIGGGGG.

I have posted this letter to 20 or so members of the guild so far and all the replies that I have received have been positive. I won't bother with any more, it's so time consuming. I will just put a link to the conversation forum on the MuGs Page if anyone else wants to contribute.

Can you have a quick look at the Guild page and comment on "Bassman's Bit" when you get a chance.
I was reminded of Live Aid at the 100th Keeper Party, I thought I should enter somthing, being as it was the largest music event on the face of the planet!!
Catchya later

I just took a look. It looks great, Bassman! I really like the Live Aid graphic you added to the article. And, of course, the links to your various projects are a great idea too.
A couple of criticisms, though. You have two links that you might want to look at. The first goes to the musical smilies forum. I get an error message on that one. And the second is the last link -- the one to add suggestions. That one seems to go back to the conversation where people announce where their bands and stuff are playing.
I'm going to go ahead and add a section to the page later today for invites to various concerts and stuff. I'll basically be copying the replies you've gotten. I'm also going to add a couple new members and a few new entries.
Thanks for keeping things lively!

That's a pain in the *** I checked those all out as I added them, I got in a bit of a mess trying to link outside H2G2 - I'm used to HTML not guide ML. I probably edited the wrong instruction at some point, I'll sort it straight away - no I won't - I've got to help the wife in with the shopping - so soon!!

Great!
All the Musicians Guild pages are now up-to-date. Over the past week, I feel we've made a lot of improvements. Thanks for taking the effort and time to help, Bassman.

Just FYI, I've added the concert dates for yourself and TowelMaster to the main Guild page. I figured we may as well openly advertise the events if people are going to submit them to us.

While carrying out my A.C.E.ing duties I regularly run into people who are musicians, more so recently. I have been trying to steer them towards the Guild page and offering them membership if they're interested - I hope this is ok by you, or would you prefer to have the last say on membership?

No, no. I appreciate the links. I'm always glad to see more members knocking at our doors.
I'm quite lax about accepting new members. I'm unlikely to refuse membership, except in the rare case of a belligerent applicant or one who can't be bothered to answer a few basic questions to join. And I haven't had anyone try to apply who has no real interest in music.
In the long term, I'll likely draft LadyK into helping me accept new members. That way, there is someone to do the accepting when I'm not immediately available. You can do so as well if you like, though it seems to me that your greatest strength is in finding *new* things to do!

Having the ideas is one thing getting them to work is another. I've unwittingly stumbled across a source of Professional Musicians to talk to - I couldn't believe my luck. It won't all happen at once I'm sure, but I'm looking forward to meeting some of them.

Sorry Sorry Sorry,
I've gone and lost the login information for MuGs - again. You'll have to take me outside and shoot me.
I went to see a Thin Lizzy tribute band the other night, ended up chatting with the band at the end of the gig, it turns out that one of them lived in my home town for a few years, and was taught how to play Dancing In The Moonlight by one of the guys from my Scout troop!!

Yes, what an odd story about Thin Lizzy. I have another odd one for you. It turns out my boss dated Kurt Cobain from Nirvana in high school. She said he was quite an artist in school, but did poorly in other subjects. He was a bit depressive even back then. They went to the junior high prom together.
Anyway, I've resent the login information to your email address.
