Natural language interface questions
DonEMitchell: VB Developer specializing in h2m interfacesh2m: human to machineI'm very interested in learning more about the present state of the art in voice recognition, and the directions any reasearch is going. Any links would be appreciated. Comments would be great. Here are some questions that I'd like to know how people feel about: Could you talk to a computer that understood your native language? like English or German, or whatever? Assuming that the computer is perfect at understanding, then what would you expect the demenor of a computer to be when it spoke to you. Do you want computers to say "Please" and "Thank you"? or get exactly to the point with no pleasantries? Would you prefer to whistle to your computer, or drum the desk for input? Would you just as soon have a tweedle-dee on successful executions of tasks, or hear the computer speak the success message? Would you give your computer a name? or would you just get it's attention by saying "Computer"? Would you want your computer to always be listening, or would it give you discomfort if the computer was very good at understanding your language while you talked to someone else? Do you feel you would animorph the computer into a personality? Would you want to alter your computers personality to suit your personality? Would you want your computer to have a tone of voice that sounded confident? What would you do if a computer laughed at you?
