Welcome to H2G2
I agree, Tivoli is great, but unfortunately so are the prices.
My name's Bistroist and I'm one of the Guide's Assistant Community Editors (ACE's). We're a bunch of volunteers who roam this place trying to be as nice and helpful as possible, and meet and greet as many newcomers as we can.
If there's something you need help with, or just want a few links to some of the cool places in here, I suggest you visit our common homepage.

I'm not sure if you know this already, but there's a welcoming message to all newcomers over here

Other questions you'd might like to ask? Try the "ask H2G2" and "How do I..."-forums
http://www.h2g2.com/A148907 and http://www.h2g2.com/A242470
btw. In case you haven't noticed, the "Don't Panic" button in the top menu bar links to an occasionally useful help section.
You might notice that many of the pages in here (including the ACE's page the last time I checked) look rather empty at the moment. This is because there has just been a major server update-rewrite-something(don't look at me, I don't know nothing 'bout computers), which has changed some of the ways Guide entries are written in. Don't worry about it, they'll probably be up and alive again soon.
The main change is that the way h2g2 looks has been fundamentally changed, you're probably looking at the new look right now, as that is the default for new users. If you want to see how the old one looks, click on the button that says something like "edit details", and try changing the goo from Alabaster to Classic. The improvement in Alabaster is that there were some serious loading time problems in the Classic goo, which has been greatly reduced in the new.
Don't worry if you don't understand any of this, just stick this in your ear

Many thanks for the reply, it is nice to know the people (you) that run this web site take an interest in the people (me) that use it.
A big thank you and congrats to you all, I think this is truely a wonderful idea for a web site. By the people for the people, now thats real people power.
I hope that some of my arcticles get your stamp of approval soon, I am writing one about Copenhagen at the moment.
I am really enjoying the journal, as a computer nerd myself (its my job!) it is much easier to do this online than in a paper journal.
It is also good to see DNA contributes to this site himself. I can not believe he did not see this coming, I mean I had been thinking that a real guide would come out in my lifetime.

Well, thank you, I'm glad you've settled in so quickly
I'm afraid I have to correct you on one thing, though. I'm not one of the blessed few who manage this site. When h2g2 got started, the people behind, the Powers in the Towers, found out that if they were to have the level of service and community that they wanted, they needed help. And though the two groups of volunteering researchers, the Subbies and the ACEs, were founded...
Cheers,

Well thank you. Are you ever going to fill in your welcome note any more than it is?
What WAP phone did you get and is it any good? I managed to get my boss to get me a Nokia 7110. I think it is so cool to be able to surf the Net on the phone. Sort of thing I used read about when I was a kid, it is much like the device used in HG2TG.

hmmm. What more could I possibly write?
The WAP phone thing is a bit of a sore point. I sent off for a deal on lastminute.com to get a T2288 (motorola) and ended up getting a trium geo. Great. I thought I was getting a T2288 for 10 pounds cheaper and end up paying 10 pounds more for a trium. So I rang them up and they said sorry and that they'd swap the phone for the right one.
But in the time I've had the trium I've read through the manual and found that while cheaper it has more features, also read a review of the T2288 saying that it wasn't that good. The same magazine gave the trium an award (something like phone of the month)
ain't life ironic?
sorry to winge. Thanks for replying.
