Very original, rather good . Where did you get the idea? Be really interested to know. Congrats Are you enjoying H2G2, i only joined a little while ago too, and am addicted! It's a little island of civilization amidst a sea of lunacy. Seems to be a lot of very nice like-minded people here. Vi

Hi Vi,
Thanks for the compliment. I can only half reply to your question about where the idea came from. I was thinking about an Ed McBain novel I read a few years back called "Ice". He always deals with several crimes at once (a bit like A Touch of Frost, if that helps). In the book, ice means the money chorus line gypsies on Broadway can make by selling tickets they're allotted to give to friends. It also means diamonds, and some diamonds are discovered in a freezer inside ice cubes. It's also set in a harsh New York winter.
I found myself thinking about gold, and how many meanings the word has got.
I'm not sure where the idea for the double horizon came from. I've never seen anything like that on my travels.
I'm still feeling my way round H2G2, though as you say there are good people here. Jab is amazing.
I love his Youtube thread, and I've been enjoying the QI Society though I don't seem to be able to guess them. A bit cryptic for me.
is a good greeting. Infie

Our Dear Jab has a Bad Poetry thread which is great fun. I don't know about the Q1 spot, I must wander around until I find it.

I'm fine, Vi. Been Christmas shopping. More crowded than I expected.
You'll find QI at A22174526, or you can get there through one of my older conversations. They all begin “QI - ”.
I have a couple of entries in Jab's bad poetry thread. To save you searching, here is the one I like best:
DAFFODILS (by Infiniteimp)
I was walking alone
On the side of a hill
When I saw all these daffs
And it made me feel ill
That the rest of the world
Who were not on this spot
Wouldn't see all these daffs
As likely as not
But a beautiful poem
If it's written with care
Can make up for the fact
That you folks were not there
As you lie on your couch
Or propped up on your bed
Real beauty you'll find
In this poem instead.
I have polished each word
And I've tweaked every letter
It's as good as the daffs
Or perhaps even better.

I too did a Daffodils for the bad poetry thread
Dills
I wandered lonely as a cloud,
that floats on high,
Ore vale and hill,
When all at once,
I spied a crowd'
A crowd of older down-filled dills.
by William Oddwords
Xmas shopping here is awful-always too hot and you don't get the Christmas spirit feeling like you do in England.

Yes, mostly I like Wordsworth, (inc daffs), but there is one truly awful one about a leech collector! At least it was awful when I first read it, long time ago,- maybe it or I have changed.

Is that the one where the man gives two versions of what he does for a living? The one Lewis Carrol was making fun of in "A-Sitting On A Gate"?
Or am I thinking of a different poem?

Thanks, Vi,
Christmas is an awkward time for me because I'm staying with relatives and can't spend hours on a borrowed computer, quite a hardship compared with normal life, so I'll just say enjoy your barbies or lager or whatever it is you marsupials do at this time of year.
