the banks started the downfall, the ones that now strike have taken advantage to get what they want.
-
we found in the past, it was better to have work for 4 or even three days, than none at all,
-
what they get off the "dole" is about a 4th of a wage.
-
some of the firemen had realised this, and said no three day ones, they would leave the union first.
-
the binmen have been offered,a fair wage, for a fair days work, they turned it down. and said they where happy to stay out till xmas. jim

I don't know enough about the binmen's situation to comment.
I do know that many employers are using the recession as an excuse to lay off, or at least underpay and over work, their workforce. It has to be stopped.

if you think back to the 18th and 19th century, the bosses would lock the workers out.
-
it happen nowadays, nothing as changed, but same as binmen, postmen, bus driver, and firemen,it can never happen, so the bosses try the less money aproach, which is going to cause a strike.
-
then later the bosses get what they really wanted, when an agreament is made.
-
its been the same evrytime the fall in work or recession hits.
-
you might have seen a carryon film, where both sides went to a meet, and stuffed loo rolls in the bags. the bosses do the same in a way, by forcing the strike, and refusing to comprimise, they know the workers can only last a short time, before the workers have financial problems.
