2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Feb 24, 2007
talking about me? its all lies damn lies and untruths.... except for all the stuff about... drinking and stuff which is all... sadly very true was out last night/this morning till gone 2 AM, then had a bottle of wine before bed; drank the last glass of the wine this morning at 10.30 when I got up... rahter unconvential breckfast, but it was some rubbish Australian red wine off out to the pub tonigh earlier.... last night all the 'decent' pubs were packed to the rafters by the time we got to em at 8.30, so we had to spend the evening in a very very student oirientationed pub drinking naff beer and then copious amounts of the cheapish house double vodka and the way overpriced JD ... Yes that is me playing the Bass guitar, and it took me about 18 bluddy attempts to get it down and recorded That song in its origional version was a tadge over three minutes long, but it didnt' soudn right, the second version was about 2 minutes and a half long, but still didn't sound right, that version is I think a bit under a minute and a half, and is the 'right' tempo/speed' but as I found out was the absolute limit just about of my playing speed on the bass : I've already started trying to do a better mix; runnign the rythm guitar through a subgroup on Cakewalk and adding an 'ambiance' type effect to it, that pushes the chords out to far left and right, makes it sound a bit punchier to my ears as the bass and kick really centres a lot better in the stereo soundscape I'm tempted* to get the pacifica out (a lot better action thatn the washburn I recoded the chords with, although the washburn with its higher action and higher gague strings has a nicer chord/rythm sound), and do a bit of piddling about in pentatonic scales on to it ... whaja recon? so... do you think it sounds alright? coudln't quite get the bass guitar sound I wanted or the right rythm guitar sound, but its closeish...

You need to turn the bass down quite a lot - the drums and guitar are somewhat lost, and the hi hat needs to come up a fair bit.
The bass playing's really rather neat!

I've a fair bit of leeway as far as the levels go on the master out, I can bring the drum up at least 3 DB, and the high hat is way down at about minus 20 DB at the moment.... The guitar now I'm running it through the subgroup with an extra bit of VST on it, makes it come out more but your probably right about the bass I've just remembered I've only listened to it through the monitors thus far, I should stick the headphones on as they give a differnt appreciation for the way something is sounding will try and work on it when brother head back to Uni tomorrow some time must be nearly time for the pub

I'm going to work on a better mix of it maybe today, and I need to have a few more listens to it myself as I'm a bit concerned about my timing on part of the rythm guitar bit
