It is hard for someone who is not the person or group which is the butt of statements from morons like that to respond efectively... or, rather, it doesn't have the same effect and usually when someone like me objects, you have people coming in calling you "the thought police".
"Oh, sorry, because I'm not Gay, I can't be offended?"
Of course, the point is, why does someone who IS the person or in the group which is the butt of the statements from morons like that have to be the one who complains and possibly open themselves up to direct attacks?
If it is wrong and offensive, it is wrong and it is offensive.
It sounds rather trite to say "Some of my best friends are Gay" in situations like this. However, it is true for me. It offends me when a$$holes like that get defended because they have the right to their opinion. Yes, they do, but they don't have the right to make offensive and hurtful remarks becuase they have the right to their opinion.
I commented that I know how hurtful it is to hear remarks like that because I have had them directed at me by some ignoramuses in high school who wouldn't have known a Lesbian if one had bitten them on the ass (well perhaps if she bit them on the ass.... you know what I mean). Not only were they bigotted and offensive, they were stupid.

Oops, I completely missed this!
I generally let offensive posts slide, and very nearly did, but tig is just so insanely extreme I had to butt in. Ultimately tig came out of it all looking ridiculous. Looking back, I'm a bit surprised by the 'openness' of some of my responses!

Well, it is a fine line. I have said things which, in retrospect, I worry might have been too personal. However, I have never had any repercussions (well, except when one person made disgusting remarks about my mother -- then, aged 80 -- but not because of anything I said. It was in relation to abortion).
Key: Complain about this post
