Hi Bossel, a short yet devious question...

How's life? I read you have been on a holiday so it can't be all bad... smiley - winkeye

Anyway, here's the question :

What exactly is it you do for a living? Would this by any chance involve programming? Perhaps you know a thing or two about SQL? XML? Java? Visual Basic?

I am re-educating myself because the market for AS/400-experts is very slow at the moment. Besides; I will have to get into the pc-world sometime and now is as good as any. smiley - winkeye

I have struggled my way through a Java-course but better still; I am now into .NET(which is basically a visual programming-suite that comes with Visual Basic 7.0, Java and C++). My SQL is more than good enough(that was 'almost invented' on the AS/400). smiley - smiley The rest I'm still studying. So any help I can get at the moment would be appreciated.

(If there are other people reading this then by all means; if you have expertise on these topics please drop me a line.)

Greetz,

TM.

Hi TM! smiley - hug

Yes it's true that I've been on a holiday. Then, it's also true that there's been lots of work and, whaddayacallit, 'calendar pressure?' after that, so technically, I'm eligible for another couple of holiday weeks right away smiley - winkeye

To earn my bisquits, I'm writing technical manuals for the (hopefully soon-to-be) operators of UMTS. How to set up the network, how to tell the master node which line is to be used for this-and-that, when to drop a call, when not to and much more stuff like that. I've done some programming (mostly Intel 386 assembly ) --- that's a couple of days ago, but I'm going to take that up for some hobby project of mine. As to the currently 'modern' languages and ideas (like .NET etc), I'm afraid I'm the wrong person to ask. Experience has told me that anything from M*cr*S*ft isn't what I'd like to have as a customer, but as things are, they've got the market in their hands and thus, programming for their platforms looks pretty much like earning money. Getting the idea behind XML is highly recommended anyway! For the details, you might better ask people at the Programmer's Corner, A604937 (I wrote the Post article A634510 introducing the place, which still isn't referenced from there smiley - erm).

For the rest, I'm hoping to find a free time slot for the upcoming Dutch (Mini?) meet smiley - ok

Hi Bossel,

O.k. thanx for the info and I guess I'll have to go and bother someone else... smiley - devil

I'll go check out the programmer's corner. As for the Dutch meet; it would be great if you would have the time to come over. It looks like it's going to be a good one judging from Shazz' preliminary schedule... smiley - alesmiley - alesmiley - ale !
